I created this master piece because in my 7th grade art class we did gradients. That's what made me love art class. I've been liking art but this made me love it. This means much to me because it brings back some memories like the days I used to walk to school and see my friends. It feels like 7th grade was a long time ago with all the boredom during quarantine, but it was just last year.

my most detailed work to date i believe~ there is a lot of weight to this piece... in a conversation with my sister I mentioned that the amount of more-simple photos of yemeni women in comparison to yemeni men was very skewed and that it would take much longer and a greater effort to draw the incredibly detailed images of yemeni women. there is absolutely nothing wrong with this but as someone who drawing is a new hobby, it felt very intimidating. however, my sister simply responded with ‘SO?’ and in this simple and blunt response, I realized that it is also very powerful that the photographs of the women are very complex. the amount of weight carried in these photos and drawings depict the strength and resiliency of a yemeni woman. with each bead, she carries a piece of her ~past, present, and future. each bead helps to define her royalty and shape her being. as @noors_nook greatly states ‘girls are not a shame.’ a powerful statement to always remember as we move towards the new foundations we hope to establish for the generations to come. ~ a special thank you goes to photographer @malinfezehai for the incredible image that made this post come alive with passion. ~yemenite

Unfortunately I never got to visit Yemen but I would always be so intrigued by the stories from my parents of their life in Yemen. I love the beautiful traditions, culture and clothing but old Sanaa particularly always caught my eyes. This painting is myself envisioning I'm there from inside my home, with my father's jambiya on display looking out my window to the beautiful old Sanaa buildings.

What really inspired me to take this picture is the masterpiece itself, all what's around me, the old man's careful steps, both children on the motorcycle and the and sky. Sunset moments are the most heartwarming moments where we can meditate and count our blessings to see how our simple life is so precious.

Zdzislaw Beksinski is my favorite Artist, his work connects with my Artistic visions so well, with Art that symbolizes tragedies, religion, totalitarianism and war. I was really evoked by his paintings that I wanted to start my own series inspired by him but in my own indigenous visualizations. For this painting, called Trivial Innocence I wanted to paint an important part in my life where I was my own light during the darkest times. When the war started in 2014, me and my family had to immigrate to my grandmother's house for shelter, however with time the war was getting closer to that place as well. During a period of tragic ruin, death and panic, one would expect fear to be implemented in everyone's heart. Although this was true, for me it was different, as an enthusiastic optimistic child I saw the positive side to everything, for example, while people panicked about immigrating I was dancing in joy knowing I'll get to meet my cousins, while everyone crowded in the basement to hide I was bursting with excitement thinking we'll have a sleepover. My trivial childish innocence blinded me from the horrendous realities taking place. I wanted to incorporate that element of innocence with me and my sister swinging from the building despite it's dangers, the building symbolizes Yemen, given that it's our traditional architectural buildings, as well as the colors of black and red from our flag, discarding the white to depict a horrific mood of no hope. This painting is very significant to me because it highlights a time, where I look back and see the fragile souls of children that represent the purity in life, having to see and live through hell due to men and leaders' ignorance.

The art piece is done through the use of pencil and color pencils. Instead of the known traditional coloring technique, the technique of lines drawn was used to put the art piece together. The message communicated is:

My story is like a book. It’s been consisting of two books so far. My childhood and my adolescence. The book of my childhood has been closed and now, I’m writing the book of my adolescence. In the book of adolescence, the war of Yemen interrupted the story. Now, it is not merely a story to tell but one that has broke free out of the book. With it, there is the flag of Yemen that is catching on fire. It’s shows how pained the country has become and the deep scars which have made it to the roots. The hand, resembling the Yemeni people, is reaching out for help. However, at the same time, they are still fighting and resisting the problem( portrayed by the shadow of a fist). The hand is emerging out of the fire to show the help needed and the strength of my people, the Yemeni people. The broken objects around resemble the destroyed buildings of my country and at the same time shows the ripped pages of my book. The story of my book is not merely words on a page but real events in a world. The war in Yemen, coming out from inside the pages, is a part of my life and is engraved in the roots of how I view the world. Being in the middle, it’s the climax of my story and the center of it.

I promised her that I will never forget her. As time went by I talked to here less and less. I was so busy worrying about fitting in, that I forgot about her. On April 2020 my father shows me a picture of her on her deathbed. He asks me to talk to her, but I refused because once again I though it was awkward. Two weeks later we get a phone call that she died. No words could describe the regret I felt. I was too foolish. I wrote this poem because I feel prayer and submission to Allah is life changing. Taking that step toward Allah has really allowed me to learn more about my Creator and myself. I learned this life is all a learning experience and Allah does not want us to be perfect but he expects us to try.

My recent artwork is reflected in who I am and to bring awareness to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen — sitting in what I call my new homeland in the United States watching my childhood country go down in ruins.
They have been in war for more than seven years; I left to the states during the start of the Arab Spring, which was last Yemen looked as beautiful as it did. I try to create art that reminds me of places where I grew up, that no longer exists due to the bombs destroying everything. I create artwork, either painting or digital work, and sometimes even sculpture to shine a light on what’s happening in Yemen.
Yemen is a place that reminds people of something ancient, and archaeologists from all around the world would go to Yemen to visit the old cities. My art shows the trauma I went through, my videos display the evil events happening, and whom these repugnant leaders/terrorists are. Unfortunately, evil runs the country at the moment, which forced many to leave. For many, there is no work, food, water, and a way to survive. I feel a need to focus my work on Yemen as it’s a reflection of who I am and its heavy-hearted to me.
My projects revolve heavily around my childhood country of Yemen, a third world country that has backward traditions with no fundamental human rights and has caused many people mental anguish. PTSD keeps me in chains, but within my process, I break one ring at a time from the strings of my trauma. We fell unconscious toward the world and rose in another, quickly America without magic. Italy lost its boot to stand, and Belgium no longer romantic. "the empire on which the sun never sets" the sun finally sets.
The Monsters are no longer a refuge, and Mecca is dry and empty. Caring switched to become a threat. Not visiting your family became an act of love. Quickly money is worthless, and Oxygen became something we struggle for.

The planet remains beautiful; we keep declaring that we are going to destroy the world with pollution. The only thing we are hurting
is our breathing. Mother earth just Locked us all up and worked its natural selection. It is time to rethink our purpose and what we are here for.

Things can change in the blink of an eye. We are not necessary, the air, earth, water, and sky without us, it's just fine. Remember, when we come back, we are only guests and never masters."

Five years of war between a Saudi-led alliance and the Houthi's, the health care system in Yemen is in critical condition; children are being treated at a Yemeni hospital for starvation and disease. The majority of the population now depends on food and medical aid mostly passed or funded by aid organizations. The World has completely cut off Yemen. I hope that my artwork brings awareness to the worst humanitarian crisis of all time in Yemen, especially now with COVID- 19 pandemic.
