Pokemon Go has undeniably sparked in popularity mainly because of its stand in AR feature, where you feel more immersed while catching the Pokemon in the wild. While not traditionally used by regulars, casuals enjoy the experience as it is more relaxed and fun to see the Pokemon seamlessly blend into the environment.

IKEA's usage of AR also had a great impact as it helped home owners to save time from measuring and also helping them visualise if furniture fit inside their house(aesthetically and size wise) This form of AR not only improved the company reputation as trustworthy and being "for the customers", but it also is a great standalone feature.

The Pros of AR are that it is easier to visualise something as it's a mix of reality and virtuality. It could also potentially reduce the need to bring as many items around(such as laptops) as it would be more convenient to use a singular AR device and be able to do multiple things with it. However, AR is also prone to many problems, namely how it isn't perfect in how it's done. Most AR elements are jarring to look out, and often look out of place. Some platforms, like Pokemon Go have managed to make the AR objects look natural but most are still far from it. Also, AR can be quite confusing to look at, especially if the material in the AR isn't clear or is too large to comprehend.

I believe that presentation formatting would be a good place to implement AR, as it allows the audience to get a hands on on the product/presentation itself rather than listening to words for the entire round. It would be overall more interesting and more immersive, allowing for more attention being given to the speaker.

1.Successful ar game: pokemon Go

gist of it is the use of the pokemon franchise to make mundane activities in real like such as walking home from school become even more exciting. A spice in our daily dish.

successful ar game 2: Jurassic world Alive.

Similarly to pokemon go its a game where you have to go out of your house to play effectively. Thats where their similarities end. Jurassic world alive has a more in-depth combat system with fleshed our progression battle systems and more social features that helps connect players together such as a guild system and raid bosses. Contrast to pokemon go with a simpler goal of collections.

2. Pros of pokemon go. It encourages players to go outside, increasing physical activities. Promotes discovery of new places in order to catch different pokemon.

Cons of pokemon go. It is a safety hazard where players are distracted from the game when crossing the roads, or even walking into light poles. It also increases screen time on our devices.

3.As a game creator, my goal is to create unique and interesting games to attract as many people as I can to relax and have fun. Currently Ar is not really that popular in the gaming industry yet due to multiple reasons such as the need for specialist devices, or maybe the inability to integrate to existing devices. As technology progresses, AR will definitely provide a different experience from your traditional pc or console games, and would definitely expand the game genre library and also improve technologies that can make life be more fun.

Pokemon GO, which allows users to catch pokemon in real physical places through projection of virtual pokemon, Owndays eyeglasses 'try on' feature which allows users to try on glasses without needing to visit a physical store

Pros: AR displays information that may enhance a physical experience through sensory input and/ or educate the user by providing a clearer visualisation. Moreover it allows users to experience what a fictional world might be like in reality. Another pro is it allows users to make a good estimate of the shape/ size of an object without needing to wear/ place down the physical item. Cons: Different surfaces like glossy/ shiny surfaces may not be detected, failing to project AR application. Also users might become too immersed in AR content that they may get themselves into dangerous situations in reality

AR may benefit my field by expanding the scope of game creation so it's not limited to virtual worlds and make games more physically interactive by blending virtual aspects with reality. Also, AR can help in pitching game ideas by giving users a better visualisation of what the game should look like, especially for 3D

1) One successful AR application is Google Expeditions AR, which enable teachers and students to explore virtual and augmented reality “field trips” inside classrooms. The problem was that traditional classroom learning often relies heavily on textbooks, images, and videos, which can limit students’ engagement and comprehension, especially for complex or abstract topics. Hence teachers needed a way to make learning more hands-on, affordable, also a safe “virtual field trip” that could supplement limited school resources. Hence Google introduced Expeditions AR to complement its VR app. Using just a smartphone or tablet, students could bring 3D objects and scenes like volcanoes or the solar system right into the classroom.

2) One pro of AR is that it reduces costs and risks of training, since AR allows simulating dangerous or expensive environments safely through devices.

Another pro is that it improves customer experience, for example IKEA AR, which allows customers to visualize furniture in their homes, it gives them the "try before you buy" feature that boosts confidence and satisfaction.

One con is that there are privacy and security risks, since AR apps often access cameras and location data, raising privacy concerns.

Another con is that there are some technical challenges, since problems like inaccurate tracking, poor lighting, or lag can break immersion.

Lastly, building and maintaining AR apps can be expensive.

3) I feel that in our discipline field, we can benefit from using AR applications to tell immersive stories by blending reality and virtual forms compared to normal storytelling through full digital form. I also believe that it opens up more opportunities to create different forms of games compared to a normal 3d game we usually create virtually.

1) NDP 2023 Hologrix's show segment featuring AR projections and drone cinematography combined with floor projections

Pokemon GO AR gameplay loop for Pokemon.

2) Pros: Looks really cool especially when its on a large scale to viewers. It's a natural next step in technological progression from the mobile smartphone. It's very engaging for the user as it engages their senses on a more intimate level.

Cons: Would cost alot more to produce in terms of equipment needed and power demands to run the show segment compared to other generic show segment types. Highly stimulating thus addictive for the user. May promote unhealthy gaming habits or reduce/inhibit the user's perception of reality which may cause user injury/harm.

3) Would offer an additional platform to create games. Allows further immersion for the player. Would probably help inspect our 3D models better to ensure that the realistic scaling feels right to us using our own perspective and scale to inspect the models better compared to viewing them from the viewport of a computer screen.

1. Pokemon GO. Released in 2016, it was (and probably still is) one of the largest free to play mobile games out there. Uses AR to show the pokemon and its animations as you try to catch it/battle.

Another one is IKEA Place, allowing users to place 3d models of furniture into their actual living space. This frees users the trouble of having to measure out to space required for the furniture. It also prevents instances whereby the furniture they purchased does not fit the living space.

2. Pros of AR: More immersive than just the screen of the device, generating computer graphics into the real world. Improves the learning experience for students. For example, medical students can visualize internal structures of the body during medical procedures.

Cons of AR: Can potentially be dangerous. One famous example is Pokemon GO, where safety was a big concern. Players were glued to their phones while searching for pokemon, leaving them vulnerable (e.g. crossing road, bumping into someone while walking). Players might also trespass into locations just to catch a pokemon they want. Another one could be privacy concerns, as AR generally requires the user to scan the area. This data may be misused against users.

3. Pokemon GO was the first major success of adding AR into the gaming industry, blending in pokemon and real world elements. It would be interesting to see how the gaming industry further utilize AR to create more immersive settings for players.

Google translate AR overlays translations directly onto the user's view, providing an immediate and intuitive translation experience for physical objects, like signs and menus. It is also useful for travelers and users who need to understand public text quickly and without manual text input.

Ikea place allows the user to "try it before you buy it" by letting them visualise the furnature in their homes, narrowing down their choices and helping them buy the ideal furnature

The pros of ar is that it increases engagement especially in retail and healthcare by letting the users visualise the procedures or products before actually commmiting to the act. Similarly, healthcare and education allow the users to simulate realistic situations using ar to improve their understanding of the problems.

The cons of ar is that the equipment might be high in costs especially for the healthcare sector when they need high accuracy. There are also security risks involved in using ar as the user requires to share some sensitive or private data which are succeptible to data breaches.

Ar can deeply benefit game creators as games can tap into ar technology and develop ar games that is still not that common in the market. Ar can also help to visualise certain entities in a realistic game by dropping the enitiy into ar and studying how it would look. Future technology should make ar easier to be used therefore making ar games more common.

1: one successful AR application would include PokemonGo, which used AR to make the player's surroundings feel more gamified and immerse them in the game's setting.

Another successful applicaiton would be Google Lens, which mixes photos taken in real life, and overlays it with its image search function, allowing users to easily identify, find similar items through google, or translate words from real life

2: Most pros of AR include its ability to immerse the user in the environment the application is set in, while allowing them to still observe the physical boundaries and objects of the real world. One of the benefits this has is allowing people to train real life skills without having to waste resources or risk the trainee every time, such as during first aid/trauma response training as well as in the training of dangerous lab procedures. This feature of AR also allows it to be safer in the sense that users are less likely to trip/bump into objects unknowingly compared to VR, however it still serves as a distractive source, especially when it comes to games which utilise the Ar function in a wide range of spaces, for example Pokemon go. these games tend to distract players from the real world, obstructing the player's view of things outside the phone screen's boundaries.

3: one of my discipline fields that may benefit from AR would be the widened range of games that could be made, more specifically allowing games to be tailored to the player's environment, allowing for more immersive experiences as well as a wider variety of game mechanics that can be implemented
