Though it may feel like a good way to help encourage participation from students with social anxiety, moving class discussions online can stunt their social skills and shield them from learning valuable life lessons. I think being able to navigate academic discussions in public/ small group settings is an important skill. That skill can be translated to working on a collaborative project, in a group at a job, being a member of a club/study group, or just generally analyzing situations in life verbally with others.

Writing as an art has become more accessible since the invention of technology such as computers and phones. Before writing was laborious but now anyone with access to technology can participate and publish their work. The way we teach students to write has also changed. We focus more on critical/deep thinking now initially and then correct/ advise structure and grammar later on. Writing is a tool that helps promote deep thinking and reflection. When people have to compose written pieces on the material they are forced to think critically about the information as they need to pull out important themes and concepts.
