I graduated in 2.5 years with my B.A. in English with an Emphasis on Writing, and I received second place for the Gerhard Alexis Prize for Excellence in English Studies my last semester, which was Spring 2020. After I graduated, I had trouble finding work thanks to COVID. Luckily, I've been able to work with the AmeriCorps for a few months as a Literacy Teacher at Monroe Elementary. Working with kids is so fulfilling, and it made me realize how much I love to teach! I'm also an Activities Assistant at Oak Terrace Assisted Living and I'm happily recognizing the differences in the two different age groups from each job: kids and the elderly. If I'm alone, I journal and write letters. I try to stay off social media as much as possible, I think that for people my age (millennials/gen z) growing up with social media has been rather toxic for us. Although it is beneficial for movements and uniting groups together, I'm afraid of how the spread of fake news will affect us in the future. I'm also afraid that the unreality portrayed in these apps not only lowers self-esteem, but causes a lack of empathy due to the lesser amount of real, physical connection we have now. This class will raise questions where the answers aren't always black and white, and I think being able to analyze things that way is extremely beneficial! My most memorable experience viewing different perspectives was when I went to Iceland to study the interweaving of culture and landscape - Being able to read a story and then physically see where it took place made me realize how completely different life is for everyone, and how much it's the same as well. The first is: "Rather, you need theory precisely because it does some work for you (...) it offers angles of intervention that you wouldn't otherwise have"(7). 
By theorizing about my life through this assignment, I've gained some insight into who I am and why I'm where I am right now. 

The second quote is: "we start with authorship because it's the most prevalent metaphysical theory of meaning production (meaning is guaranteed and produced from the interior thoughts and intentions of individuals). From there we increasingly move "outward," toward the production of sense in and through social contexts" (7). 
By reading these micro-autoethnographies, we are perhaps gaining an understanding of where we find meaning in our lives.
