I consider Literature a type of art, reached through different combinations between the language elements.

A literary work is an aesthetic object because, with other communicative functions initially bracketed or suspended, it engages readers to consider the interrelation between form and content. (Culller, 1997:p33).

Literature is language in which the various elements and components of the text are brought into a complex relation (…) In literature there are relations – of reinforcement or contrast and dissonance – between the structures of different linguistic levels: between sound and meaning, between grammatical organization and thematic patterns. (Culler, 1997:p29).

Literature like:
1- spide wed: it seems simple but it is really complex. It holds a lot of things. It is like a spider wed because it has a lot of complements that catches the readers attention (like the to insects.
2- world map: it expresses the culture of different countries form all over the world.
3- book and pasport: it is like a journey because it leads the readers to different places and throught different stories.
4- book and glasses: it expresses history. Some authors describe and show historial facts throught literature.
5- theatre faces: that picture represents all literature genders.
6- book with te guitar's shadow: literature expressed throught music/ lyrics
7- book with brightness: literature like fiction or imaginatin

9- heads faced: literature expresses different ways of thinking. Different ideologies

Literature is the art of verbal expression, it refers to works of the creative imagination, including poetry, drama, fiction, nonfiction, etc. For me it´s a journey in which we learn about other cultures. Reading literature enables us to see the world through the eyes of others we comprehend other points of view, to set aside one's personal perspectives to see life through the eyes of someone who is from another age, class, or race.

What is literature for you?
For me, literature is a way to get know other cultures.Besides, it consists of a variety of systems, including language, arts, national origin, historical period,genre, and subjetc matter.

Literature for me was all that has to do with what is written and for that I mean all that is in books only. But, after reading "Literary Theory" by Jonathan Culler and debate this and the classmates' ideas, I came to this conclusión of what is Literature for me, at least for now: Literature is the expression of the human mind. Not only those who are written, because at the beginning of humanity people didn't know how to write, so they drew to tell their lives at that moment. It can be considered as a piece of art, a narrative of the history at some point and place or a written book which finallity is to enrich people knowledge like a book of maths or biology. All of this encourage reflection and changes our perspective of the world.

Literature for me is a whole new universe since it includes an enormous variety of new information, topics and tools to foster the reader's imagination and knowledge.
As Culler states, [...]"people have written works that we call literature today" [...] we can see that this subject matter does not have an specific starting point in history. We can say that literature has always existed so its works are full of references and information about historical periods, culture, events and people not only about the time it was written but also about the author her/himself.
Literature is a whole new universe in terms of reflection, thinking, analysis and general knowledge.

For me literature is a group of works of art with very emotions. Books, poetry, theatre, poems, stories, etc., as well as facts, myths, stories from the past that were captured in humanity whose language medium can be spoken and written, expressed in different ways. (They can be works of life).
The author uses his creativity, imagination, experiences, interpretation, context to use his words and grammar, while each reader uses them from their perspective. I think is hard to define literature because it has many different forms and varies according to what people prefer.

After reading the authors Culler and Clayton we can learn a little more than it is or how to realize when a work is literature (or recognize those that are not believed as literary works).
On the one hand, Culler is that he points out that literature has not a single meaning or that there is nor a specific answer to define it. He highlights the beauty of language. Culler mentions that it comes in all shapes and sizes. It's means that we can find literature in any kind of book and writings. He also mentions that it matter where you come across a text.
On the other hand, Clayton tells us "The story contains a hidden meaning and your mission, if you are willing to undertake it is to decode that meaning" (Clayton, Introduction: on fiction, page 1). As he also tells us that A writer shapes his model of the world by making "choices" depending on the kind of story he wants to tell, for example: angle of vision, characterization, setting, tone and voice, Plot, symbols, themes, personification, etc.

LITERATURE for me is a way that allows us to express and transmit our points of view, dreams, thoughts and more.

Literature is a magical transport that allows us to discover new cultures, points of view, feelings and ways of thinking.

Taking into account Culler's writing, literature doesn't have a single meaning and it can't be defined in a determined way. For this reason, Literature can be a written text, a drawing or a spoken text. So it involves a lot of things depending on what the author wants to convey.

According to Jonathan Culler Literature is "a speech act or textual event that elicits certain kinds of attention. Most of the time what leads readers to treat something as literature is that they find it in context that identifies it as literature: in a book of poems, a section of a magazine, library or bookstore." I believe that Literature also expresses life experiences, different perspectives and makes the writers' voices to be listened. To sum up, Literature is not only used to share ideas, but to share identities, diversity, feelings and emotions. I chose this picture so as to represent how in only one story it can be a wide variety of points of view to be told.

It is a complicated question to answer, but in my opinion Literature are all of that written artistic works that analizes the art and structure of numerous composition forms, not focusing solely on the grammatical aspect but the passionate component that comes with writing. This can include stories, poems, plays, speeches, sermons, history, philosophy, to name a few. But more importantly, Literature is to me, an outlet that invites you to a different world, tries to give you a lesson, a message, or simply wants to stay in your head for a while to reflect.
