There were 762 homicides in Chicago during those 2 decades. Jennifer decided that since the children were not feeling safe from losing their loved ones, she would create a new after school program. This new after school program was called Future Ties. There were 100 children in this after school program from K-5, and 1,200 children living in Parkway Garden Homes. 
                 Jennifer Maddox has noticed in Chicago there has been a lot of violence. “We can’t arrest our way out of this” she says. There are 5, 6, and 7 year old’s losing their people, their loved ones. Even though she is a law enforcement officer she is also a mother, and a member of the community.  This has made Jennifer Maddox create a new after school program to make the children feel safe again.
