The abolitionists were people who wanted to end slavery. They wanted the U.S. to only have free states. Most of the abolitionists were former slaves who were speaking out against it.
Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman were some of the people who didn't like slavery. Douglass was a former slave and made his own newspaper speaking out against slavery. Tubman made markings of all the safe places to hide and go to get up north or into Mexico. Both of them helped speak out and get rid of slavery in the U.S.

Many women across the united states were speaking up for rights. Women weren't treated like men were. Men could vote and could have a lot more then women could. Women could not vote and when they got married everything went to their husband. When men and women got divorced the man got to keep the land and money.
Women like Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady
Stanton, and Susan B Anthony were some of the many women spoke out. They spoke out for women's rights everywhere and finally on July 19, 1848 there was a Seneca falls convention talking about women's rights. At the convention they demanded for equality. Women could then work at schools and churches. Then there rights slowly progressed until 1920 when they got the right to vote.
