         <title>Deepwater Horizon </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>April 20, 2010<br><br>The Deepwater Horizon disaster occurred in the Gulf of Mexico in April of 2010. A point source pollution, the event has been recognized as the largest ocean spill in history. The Spill resulted in the death of 11 people, in addition to the 17 people who were injured. The oil spill was caused by a faulty plan that did not include enough cement between the production casing, thus allowing oil to spill out.<br><br>11 workers were killed, and many more injured. Thousands of animals, both land and sea, were injured as a result of the disaster and the effects are still present to this day. This was a point source incident.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Exxon Valdez Tanker</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>March 24, 1989<br><br>On this date, the Exxon Valdez crashed on Bligh Reef off of the coast of Alaska. Spilling 11 million gallons of oil into the ocean, the event was once known as the largest spill in history. A total of 28 species of animals, plants, as well as habitats were injured. Following the disaster, teams of scientists and volunteers showed up to help the species affected, however the spill has had a lasting impact on the ecosystem. This was a point source incident.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Over the course of thirty years, from 1950-1980, drinking water at Camp Lejeune was contaminated with industrial chemicals, and solvents. The results of the Contamination have caused increase risk of many different kinds of cancer, birth defects, and neurological behavioral effects. The water was consumed by people in the military over the span of three decades, before it was finally treated, thus potentially putting thousands of veterans at risk of contracting life threatening diseases. This was a nonpoint source incident.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Gold King Mine Spill</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>August 5, 2015<br><br>The Gold asking Mine waste water spill resulted in the leakage of waste water into a river near Silverton Colorado. Toxic water was the cause of this environmental disaster in August 2015. The result included the closure of the river as well as continuous river and irrigation tests. There have since been issues with water supply which has affected humans in the area. The States affected include Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. This was a nonpoint source incident.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Love Canal Contamination</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>December 30, 1983<br><br>The Love Canal Contamination occurred in the southeastern region of Niagara Falls, in New York. The disaster was a result of the leakage of a 70 acre landfill. That polluted water for hundred of residents in the area. The group responsible was Hooker Chemical Company, and the construction of the event was on December 30, 1983 and completed later in 1998. The cleanup for this disaster was extensive, and required a Superfund. This was a point source incident.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Pacific Gas &amp; Electric Chromium Contamination</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1952-1966<br><br>Approximately 370 million gallons of chromium tainted water was spread throughout Huntley California. The consequences from this pollution of groundwater served as a significant negative impact on the surrounding community. By 2013, the company that did the damages was forced to spend $750 million on remediation. The chromium in the water was known to cause cancer and other deadly diseases when consumed. This was a point source incident.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1969<br><br>The river in Cuyahoga was extremely polluted in the years leading up to the fire, and as a result of the oil slick on the surface, a fire was able to start and spread. Over 30 years ago, between 3-5 thousand locations were polluted. 21 million dollars were spent on the cleanup effort. This was a point source incident.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Elk River Chemical Spill</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>January 9, 2014<br><br>This event occured as crude 4-methylcyclohexanemethanol leaked from a Freedom Industries facility and made its way into the Elk River in Charleston, West Virginia. Up to 10K gallons were realeased  into the river. The event resulted in up to 300K residents crossing between nine counties to be kept without access to water. A state of emergency was declared and the bulk of the issue was cleared up, however those who drank the water are posed with potential long term diseases. This was a point source incident. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Milwaukee Disease Outbreak</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1993<br><br>In 1993, the disease cryptosporidiosis was spread throughout Milwaukee. A waterborne illness, it remains the largest waterborne outbreak in the history of the US. While the cause was never identified, it is possible that it was passed through water treatment plants. The disease resulted in the deaths of 104 patients and was most devastating to those without string immune systems. This was a nonpoint source incident.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Coal ash ponds surrounding over twenty power plants in 5 southern states were shown to be contaminated. High amounts of arsenic and selenium were the cause of the Contamination. Merely taking out the coal ash would not be enough to reduce the toxicity. This could potentially contaminate large amounts of people and ecosystems. This was a point source pollutant.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Dead zones consist of low oxygen areas in large bodies of water. They are a result of exceedingly high amounts of nutrients. These dead zones lower the oxygen amount in areas and fail to support needed marine ecosystems and environments. Most often, these areas harm coastlines. This was a non point pollution.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Hudson River PCB Contamination</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1947-1977<br><br>The pollution of the Hudson River was a result of actions by General Electric. PCB's, a dangerous Chemical into the water. Fish were contaminated, and the wildlife was harmed as a result. Humans who consume the fish were potentially set up to getting diseases. Following this event, cleanup ensued and the government passed the Clean Water Act. This was a point source pollution.</div>]]></description>
