For our students, explicit teaching is important in modelling the ways of writing and thinking, but much of the effort should come from them to help them realise their own capabilities, especially students with learnt helplessness or lack of motivation. I particularly enjoyed the presentation of the group which inquired into the teaching of grammar in an inductive way, such as using comic strips to teach direct to indirect speech.
