Poseidon is the God of the sea, earthquakes, and horses. He would be pictured with a trident which he would use to control the waters, cause storms, or calm seas. He is also one of the three most powerful Greek gods and had a crucial part in Greek mythology. For example, in the article, "Poseidon: The Greek God Of the Sea", it stated, " he held a crucial place in Greek mythology and was revered and feared as one of the most powerful gods in the ancient pantheon." Another thing about him was that he was the son of Cronus and Rhea which are the king and queen of the Titans. His father, Cronus learned of a prophecy that stated that he would get overthrown by his own child. So, he ate up Poseidon and 5 of his siblings. By the rescue of Zeus making a substance that made Cronus throw up, Him and his siblings defeated the Titans and took control of the world. Zeus, Hades Poseidon drew lots and Poseidon drew the ocean and took control of the sea.

Poseidon's role in the Odyssey

Poseidon is the God of the sea and the water, and brother of Zeus. Whoever hurts the sea, he punishes them by bringing in storms and having some ways to hurt the person who hurt his seas. He despises Odysseus for blinding his son, the Cyclops Polyphemus, and constantly hampers his journey home. Hes the antagonist in this story, he thinks that Odysseus was hurting the sea which led him to falsely punishing Odyssues and wrecking his ship on his way home across the ocean. On the inner-side Poseidon is actually a good character, in the article I read it said: "Ironically, Poseidon is the patron of the seafaring Phaeacians, who ultimately help to return Odysseus to Ithaca."

Theme/Symbol of Poseidon

Poseidon's theme/Symbol is usually seas and the trident. I feel like the trident would represent him well. In the article I read it says: "His weapon and main symbol was the trident, perhaps once a fish spear. According to the Greek poet Hesiod, Poseidon’s trident, like Zeus’s thunderbolt and Hades’ helmet, was fashioned by the three Cyclopes." I feel like this was well said because Poseidon often carries around his trident, and attacks people who sins with his trident, and seems like his best friend but just its not a human.
