Before researching Netiquette, I did not consider all that online etiquette was. Not knowing exactly what Netiquette was, I found out through research that I knew more about Netiquette than I thought I did. I have learned a lot throughout my years of education and through my parent. My dad while growing up preached how no matter the privacy settings, what you post on the internet will never be fully private. He would say what you post is permanent and to be cautious with what you post. Growing up, I was always reminded of that and always cautious of what I posted or shared. Now as I further my educational career to become a teacher, I understand how important that was and the impact it could have on my future. I have always been big on respecting others and educating myself. With the use of technology and social media, I see first hand how some people act and it is heartbreaking. I will always advocate for treating others with respect and treating others how I want to be treated. Although, technology was improving as I was older and wasn’t as big of a resource as it is now, I was still taught more about Netiquette than I thought I did prior to my research. Another thing I did not consider before researching was how you can teach Netiquette to young children. I don’t remember what my dad did when I was in the early grades of elementary school; Doing research there are so many resources to assist in educating, for example, there are videos, lesson plans, and books that can help teach Netiquette.

My research confirmed and strengthened how important Netiquette is. It has also strengthened what can be teachable moments. What seems like common sense to me, is not common sense to Kindergarten students. My research has strengthened what I knew prior about Netiquette. I am confident in being able to teach my future students the Do’s and Don’ts while being online. If a parent or caregiver asked me I can thoroughly describe what students should be doing and which actions or situations are wrong and do not follow the Netiquette rules. Researching Netiquette has strengthened my ability to explain the Do’s and Don’ts to not only parents or caregivers but also being able to explain it to young students in a way that they will be able to fully understand the differences. Being able to do so will help strengthen my future classroom. Without doing the research I did, I am not sure if I would have known all the resources and tricks that are at use to explain it to young students.
