Despite my own opinion on the genre, I found that after doing the review, I believe that pop music does deserve a place in the idea of "good music." The genre focuses on dance beats and uplifting attitudes, and the genre is often characterized by electronic accompany to a set of mindless or lighthearted lyrics. Songs in the genre are written in order to appease an audience; unlike other genres of music, this genre focuses on surface level emotions and uplifting beats in order to help to uplift an audience. The interesting this about pop music includes that there is no specific cultural group that listens to this music. The genre can be defined as a product of globalization, because the genre attempts to appeal to all audiences-- therefore insinuating its importance: to appeal to the positive emotions of an audience through avoiding intense emotion. Therefore, this genre is needed everyone on Earth in times in which negative emotions and violent thought should be avoided, such as during events for children or for events in the professional or corporate world. To some, this genre can be of the upmost importance due to its power to appease an audience. The catchy beats and mindless lyrics are needed in order to keep a diverse group of people united and satisfied. After listening to and trying to understand the genre, I still hate pop music. I hate all that pop music stands for and I especially hate its meaninglessness. However, I now understand that pop music has its place in the modern world.
