Ronald Dahl (9/13/19-11/23/1990) was a British writer who was popular for his adventurous and erratic children's fantasy novels. His infamous works are Charlie & the Chocolate Factory and Matilda. Dahl skipped college following his high school graduation, and opted for an expedition to Newfoundland. Upon his return, he joined the Royal Air Force during WWII and flew fighter pilots. During his enlisted time, a smaller author recommended he publish his war stories- and he did! His first book was written for Walt Disney and was a flop. He didn't let this deter him, in fact, he continued on and turned to writing children's books. Another famous one of his works is James & the Giant Peach- which was, in fact, written for his own children! Overall he had a very successful career as a children's author.
