Suicide rate is 4 times higher in prison than the general population and 1/3 commit suicide in the first week of suicide. Most suicides are by people in solitary confinement.

Potential causes of juvenile cases are single mothers or too young that abandon their children, this loneliness causes them to be easy targets to gang or other criminals. 40% of young males have committed a crime before 18 years old.

Alex S, School to prison pipeline
For mine, the school-to-prison pipeline is being exacerbated by the presence of police in the schools instead of the school using their own resources. Pasco County itself only reserves the SROs for more serious offenses, but in other districts, the SROs take discipline into their own hands.

Ryan, Basic mental health
In prisons, there needs to be more resources on mental health, such as group counseling, psychological evaluations, etc.

Camden, private prison companies
Some companies like CoreCivic profit off of the mistreatment of prisoners when a government outsorces them to run their prisons and jails.

Solitary Confinement has proven to not serve as an effective punitive measure. 1/3 of the prisoners placed in solitary confinement commit suicide within their first week.

The Prison system accumulates more than 2 billion a year from both government subsidies and fines. The war on drugs in the 1970s would establish increased punitive measures taken against drug dealers and users, which would in turn be used to demonize minority groups and disenfranchise them.

Most prisoners upon being released return to commiting similar crimes. Psychologists agree that prisons do not effectively rehabilitize convicts.
