It is celebrated on April 23rd in commemoration of the foundation of Grand Ntional Assembly of Turkey in 1920. Even though it is reffered as a national holiday, it is devoted to all children around the world by Atatürk who is the founder of the Turkish Republic. There are some traditionalised activities held on that day: schools come together and participate in ceremonies; children replace state officials including the president, the mayors and the parliamentarians for a day in order to discuss topics related to children; many countries send groups of children to Turkey to participate in the ceremonies. The foreign children are hosted in Turkish families to get the chance to learn about each other’s countries and cultures. 
I like this particular holiday because of its ability to unite both adults and children on a national and international level.
