What whole-school challenges do I already face or do I anticipate facing when using tablets?

I think that in my country we have two main problems to face: one is the old approach to teaching and learning, the other is the lack of investments. So we have two main challenges to face: first we have to try to change the present perception of "new" technologies, which many teachers still see as unknown enemies. Secondly, there are too many cuts in investments for education.

The whole of these problems represents a strong restriction to any growth opportunity.

Waiting for a better future, I think that teachers who have got tablets in their schools or the opportunity to buy them, should plan a gradual introduction of those instruments, starting from technical and linguistic subjects. By this way it could be more simple to introduce the use of tablets even if for the other subjects.

I think that the same could be done even in other contexts, like in adult education.

I am not a teacher, I design courses for adult learners but I think that the opportunities given by tablets to children can be the same for everyone. If we think that using tablets allows a more engaging, creative and collaborative learning, it has to be true for adults as for children, or even more (adult people generally has less time and less energies than young students).

Among the additional resources of Module 1 I found very useful this review:

http://www.tabletsforschools.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/T4S-Literature-Review-9-4-14.pdf

The concept of learning scenario reminds me to the ADDIE model in learning design. In the image below you can clearly see the 5 stages of that model. There are similar stages between the two models but also some important differences, like the subjects (designer/teachers and pupils) and the aims of the work (designing a course/exploring even a single theme). In both models the keywords are creativity and collaboration.

I use group work in all my courses because it 's an important way to share duties, create synergy and reach the learning objectives. I prefer to divide the class into small groups (4 or 5 students) and to assign them different tasks. In my experience the best solution is to organize the groups on a psychological, gender and expertise principle: not all shy people together, male and female and less and more expert people in balanced number (if possible).

Students can learn to collaborate among them even if they live, study and belong to different countries and cultures. They can also have fun expressing their creativity.

However I think that an eTwinning project must base on clear rules, roles and challenges. I can see who logged in, how many times and what he/her did, downloaded or watched. For example the Workshop module is a a peer assessment activity with many options. Students submit their work via an online text tool and attachments. There are two grades for a student: their own work and their peer assessments of other students' work.

I know this model and I use it when it's possible. I think it is the evolution of blended learning, in fact these two models have got many common features.

As explained in the introduction it's very important to plan carefully the role of students, teachers and tablets (or computers). Flipping the classroom you have to activate students through the research of learning materials and discussion. But you have to pay attention to the time needed at home, it hasn't to be more of that needed for traditional homework. And you have to give effective support to everyone, considering their features and difficulties.

Even if time runs too fast I learned much more things from this course than what I expected.

I'm satisfied for this first MOOC I took part, even if it's not always possible to look at everyone's work and posts in the forum because we are too many. Nevertheless it's been an important experience for many reasons and I really liked to experiment new approaches and to expand my mind. So thank you everybody and hope to see you on next courses.

I'm ready to start with a new one, called "Games in school" :-)

Bye bye!
