One example is Iran's petrol consumption.

Iran is the biggest petrol importer in the Middle East, having about 70 million litres consumed daily. In Iran, one litre of petrol is cheaper than one bottle of drinking water. Every year the government pays a large sum of money for imported petrol as well as petrol subsidies. About 17.5% of GDP (gross domestic production) is allocated to energy subsidies every year. More than 25% of GDP is allocated to total subsidies in Iranian economics. Thus people consume it in an inefficient manner and petrol smuggling is a very popular job especially near boundaries. From the environmental point of view this level of petrol consumption caused high levels of air pollution especially in big cities and because of that Tehran (capital of Iran) is one of the most air polluted cities in the world. Given the situation that petrol has become one of the scarce resources all around the world, Iran is over-exploiting and wasting such natural resource.

This is as while there are 800 million people who are malnourished, there are over 2 billion overweight people (which in turn increases healthcare cost as well as chronic diseases), with a third of food produced thrown away. This can only be fixed if there is a complete overturn of how the system is being run, as the factors to be considered would be how to provide a healthier diet on a worldwide scale, as well as to reduce the waste of food to reduce the environmental impact at the same time.

Jia Wei has discussed about the lack of sustainability in education for the lesser developed country, citing one of the main reasons to be due to the lack of investments. From reading the article linked, I can agree with the point of the country having to pull a lot of resources from other parts of the economy in order to promote a subsidised higher education.

This is why I believe that globalisation has helped in heaps and bounds, as it has helped many countries improve their economies. We may see a huge improvement soon.

For instance, paper straws are an alternative to plastic straws but producing more paper straws means more trees would be cut down to produce them, which is also not environmentally friendly even though they are durable and reusable. Hence, when there is a high demand for such straws in the future, it may even harm our environment more than using plastic straws.

E-waste is very toxic and people underestimate the toxicity of the e-waste that we disposed.
Government are implementing regulations to help in the reduction of e-waste (properly disposal).
However, this might not be sufficient, the key would need to be start from educating the public on how toxic e-waste can be so that public would understand that this issue not only affects them, but affects their future generations as well.
