"How long you figure before we save up and get the fourth wall torn out and a fourth wall-TV put in? It's only two thousand dollars. That's one-third of my yearly pay" (Bradbury 18).
"She shoved the valise in the waiting beetle, climbed in, and sat mumbling, "Poor family, poor family, oh everything gone, everything, everything gone now..." (Bradbury 108).
"Nobody listens any more. I can't talk to the walls because they're yelling at me. I can't talk to my wife; she listens to the walls" (Bradbury 78).
"'That favorite subject, Myself.' "I understand that one" (Bradbury 68).

The first quote underpins the idea that Mildred wants a room with a TV screen on every side regardless of the price. The phrase "Its only two thousand dollars" suggests that Mildred thinks that two thousand dollars is a fair or small price for a TV when it is actually a huge portion of Montag's hard earned money.
In the second quote, it is clear to readers that Mildred's care is solely for her parlor family, but not her husband or her actual house that is about to get burned down. This persuades readers that Mildred has become delusional and addicted to think that her electronic devices such as her 'parlor family' are real people with emotion.

The third quote signifies how absorbed Mildred is into the parlor walls that represent advanced technology and reveals the lack of communication skills that is practiced by society.
With her obsession with the talking walls, Mildred demonstrates that she only cares about herself and the parlor family. Throughout the story, readers recognize the distant relationship that Montag and Mildred have, contributing to the idea that Mildred is self-absorbed and is familiar with her "favorite subject," herself. In today's society, social media has been a critical factor in how people view themselves. Not only do people tend to only think about their selves, but they also isolate themselves from others due to their constant needs to check their phones.
