I decided to choose this video because it visually demonstrates how a social situation is much stronger than an individual personality (1.1 The Social Situation Creates Powerful Influence.) In the said video, you can see how the group overpowers an individual's actions by either helping or not helping the person in need. This particular social idea is known as the bystander effect. Capturing the bystander effect out in public with people who are unaware of the experiment is the best way to display that an individual's decision is highly based on the influences of the social situation.

The form of media I decided on is a news article in order to exhibit the way associational learning works. What I learned in Chapter 2 is that associational learning occurs when an object or event comes to be associated with a positive or negative emotion or feeling (2.1 Associational Learning). This article discusses how Rhianna made a massive profit with a 3 second clip of her using her makeup at the Superbowl halftime show. In this particular situation, because so many people feel a positive emotion towards Rhianna, they are more likely to buy the product that she's endorsing which is exactly what happened!

I have used a website that consists of mental health articles, hotlines, and other resources. I chose this media as it relates to helping individual's cope with their negative emotions in an effective way. This gives students a way to be able to express their problems and allow them to gain information from others (3.3 What Doesn't Work: Distorting and Suppressing Negative Outcomes.) Not only that, but with this type of media, social support can really help individual's dealing with their negative emotions and can lead to a happier life (3.3 Finding Satisfaction with our connection with Others.) Feel free to visit the website and ask for help if needed!

The group that calls itself the Ku Klux Klan is a perfect example of deindividuation, thus why I decided on the image above. When they meet, their individual self-awareness is stripped by everyone in white robes and hats. It gives the illusion that they are stronger as one, promoting deindividuation which is the loss of self-awareness and individual accountability (4.1 Self-Awareness.) By doing this, the individual is more likely to violate social norms and in this case, the KKK is more likely to speak and act on their racism.

Link to image:
https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/ku-klux-klan/

This commercial is the media I chose to go with thoughtful message processing. Thoughtful process messaging meaning it causes us to think about how the message relates to our own beliefs and goals and involves our careful consideration of whether the persuasion attempt is valid or invalid (5.2 Thoughtful Message Processing.) As seen above, the goal of this advertisement is to get kids to stop vaping by visually showing damage and adding statistical facts for credibility. It wants the kids who are out there vaping to really take a step back, question themselves, and realize how it's affecting their body.

My last piece of media are drawings that depict nonverbal behavior. I found nonverbal behavior interesting because it's also another accurate way to determine our perception of others by looking at spatial distance, body language, and eye contact (6.1 nonverbal behavior.) When we're out and about we tend to think people with great posture are more confident and if you're slouched over we perceive you to be more of an introvert. Nonverbal behaviors really say a lot about a person even if there's no words coming out of their mouths directly.

Link for drawing: https://www.communicationtheory.org/non-verbal-communication/types-of-nonverbal-communication/
