Women's Rights Convention Seneca falls, NY

Today was the first women's rights convention . It was advertised as “ A convention to discuss the social, civil, and religious and rights of women.” It lasted two days from July 19th-21s. The convention was organized and lead by the women Quakers and a women by the name of Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

They had planned the event while with another women. Her name was Lucretia Mott. She happened to be a great public speaker. In this time it was odd for women to be such great speakers because women were not allowed to speak in public. This meeting of women had six parts over all. Scott was a guest speaker who stressed that women needed to speak up and make space for themselves in society.

One of the major events was the sighing of the document entitled ‘The Declaration of Sentiments.’ This included the statement “...equal rights for women and Men..” The topic of this meeting was women's place in social political and religious stance in society.

Men were even invited to the convention. 40 some men will come including Frederick Douglass an African American abolitionist. This convention passed 12 resolutions -11 of them being unanimous.

Editorial

This movement was a day in history. This will probably be the starting point for future movements. Let's face America women are fighting back. Although we usually saw them cooking in the kitchen and unable to speak for themselves. We got surprising news for you. THEY CAN! And they are showing us. They had a meeting. It comprised of 200 women and 40 men who came to hear what these women had to say.

I think that he first thing to change will be women's education. That most of our women need education and educate themselves in order to have better lives for their children! How do we expect women to raise children without the knowledge of Mathematics beyond multiplication. What about taking care of the finances?

Our economy would be doing so much better with women in the workplace. There are women with skill, women who can do more than sow. Women who can act who can do manual labor and raise 3 kids. I can think of a day were we will respect women and how powerful they are. they are not as fragile as you think they are. We do not just belong in the kitchen. We can do heavy lifting. We can fend for ourselves. One day our daughters will be respected. I have no idea what more we could ask for.
