Title: The Unwanteds

Author: Lisa McMann

Genre: Fantasy/Action and Adventure

Alex Stowe is a 13 year old boy Purged for being creative, christened Unwanted, along with 20 other kids, and is sentenced to death. Before dying at the “Death Farm” they Death Farmer reveals himself as a mage, and that he is actually saving them from the land of Quill, who purged them. His name is Mr. Today, and he has creatied many creatures and statues with magic, such as Simber, the giant flying stone Cheetah, and Ms. Octavia, the art teacher who is part octopus, part alligator. The Death Farm is then transformed instantly into a land called Artime, hidden from the people of Quill. As Alex and his friends adjust to life in the Mansion of Artime, learning magic and the arts, Alex’s twin Aaron, the Wanted, rises quickly among the Quill government. Alex’s longing for his twin causes him to do dangerous things, putting Artime’s existence on the line, along with the lives of the hundreds of Unwanteds saved by Mr. Today.

I would rate this book 5/5 stars. It is the most creative book I have ever read. It is the first in a series of 7 books, each just as creative. It amazes me how the author thought of this story, with magic tubes as transportation, living statues, and creatures created with magic. Artime is on an island, and it answers the question of “What happens to people lost in the Bermuda Triangle?” The island is in the Dragon’s Triangle, and all the characters are descendents of people lost at sea, which I personally believe to be highly creative.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys battle, magic, and creativity. This book is been called a mix between Harry Potter and The Hunger Games. So if you enjoyed these books, you would love this.

Beneath

Ronald Smith

Adventure Fiction

This book is about two young teenage boys who are very close with each other. The older one Coop leaves to New York without telling Pat the younger brother. Pat finds out and goes to New York also. He finds out he is in a living community underground. He goes down there and realizes is even further down in a place called the Deep. He goes down and faces many issues on the way.

I would rate this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I think this is a very good book and gives suspense through the whole book. But the last few chapters got a little boring. My favorite part of the book is when Pat finds Coop. I would only change the last few chapters. I would recommend this book to anyone 7th grade and up.

Sophie J

Book- PIE

Author-Sarah Weeks

Genre- Fiction Mystery

Plot----- PIE is about a girl named Alice and her grandmother’s secret pie recipe. When her grandmother passed away Alice and Charlie, her friend try and solve the mystery of who is trying to get her amazing pie recipe. Her and her grandmother has a special bond that no one else had in her family. It involves a catnapping, bike riding, and much more. It is a sweet heart-warming book that is great for all ages.

I give PIE a 5 out of 5 stars. I liked how the author described all of the characters. It was a well thought out book. I didn’t like how there wasn’t a second book because I think there is more to the story. Overall it is a great family book. It is though most likely meant for girls. My favorite part is when they find the cat. I would definitely recommend this book to all my friends.

This book is about a boy named Stanley Yelnats that was sent to camp green lake, because a famous athletes pair of shoes were dropped on his head . Camp green lake is where boys dig holes all day as punishment for what they did, they sat that digging holes is supposed to make them a “better person”. The name camp green lake was ironic because there is no lake It dried up years ago. Stanley wasn't the best a digging holes, he was always the last person to go back to camp. Then he met hector Zeroni that was the fastest at digging holes, but he didn't know how to read or write. So hector and Stanley made a deal , hector will dig Stanley's hole and Stanley will teach hector to read and write. One day hector decided to run away one night , and Stanley was worried. When they were getting water Stanley stole the water truck and planned on finding hector, he drove the truck into a ditch then ran away on foot. Stanley found hector and what they both find is what you must find out.

Mia’s life is great up until one day when her and her entire family gets in a traumatizing accident. When she awakes he sees her body all beaten up and bloody, but she isn't in her body.
Justice B. Title: Everything, EverythingAuthor: Nicola Yoon Genre: Young Adult FictionEverything Everything is about a girl named Maddy that has disease where she can’t go outside and if she does she will die so this is what Maddy’s house looks like. Her house has secure wind and air doors and they have all the windows secure too. And also she has 2 doors so when her mom or someone goes in or out their is a door and then that closes and then there is a second one just to make sure no air gets in. So you guys are probably wondering where are does she go to school and she does go to school but on a computer she doesn’t go anywhere just home. Also she has a nurse come over and help her to see if Maddy is doing ok. I give this story a 5/5. I gave this book a 5/5 because it wasn’t hard to read and I loved how this book just explains everything and it's not all clumped all together. Also because it lets you know what's all going on in the book. Also I liked how the book had all these good cliffhangers after the chapter was over so it would make you want to read another chapter. My favorite part is at the ending when Maddy and this other person meets and they go somewhere. I recommend these book to anybody really but 12 and up.

Stephen S.

The Dark Pond

Joseph Bruchac

Fiction Speculative Fiction

The Dark Pond is about a college student that follows his native american ancestors, the college is in the middle of a mountain range. Though there is an area where it is flat enough for trees and a pond to be there. The pond has a pull on the student but the animals such as deer, squirrels and foxes walk around it and don’t even drink out of it. At the college there is a janitor like him who follows his native american ancestors, the student also went to his college library and found a few books on creatures that the native americans described. The student also has a weird connection with the animals they come to him/fly to him that was why he would take raisin boxes and a few other things in his pocket for the animals.

I would rate The Dark Pond 4.5 out of 5 because the book kept you wanting to towards the end. I liked how much I related to the student also the main character, we both commonly like the odd ball. I hated how when he finally found out what was in the pond, it didn’t really seem to be treating. It didn’t even fight back. My favorite part was when the student stayed for spring break, because it was when he got a chance to find out was at the bottom of the pond. In my opinion it was a great and fast read and I would recommend it to people who like mysteries, fiction ,and animals(because at the end the animals are a big part of the story).

Zoe C.Title: The Hunger GamesAuthor: Suzanne Collins Genre: Sci-fi, fantasyI would recommend this book for ages 12+. This book is about a girl named Katniss Everdeen, and she lives in a community where the government picks out of a bowl, one boy and one girl to fight to the death in an arena until one remains. She has avoided it so far, until she is forced to volunteer. She meets many people, some a lot nicer than others, and has to decide whether she can trust them, or if they are just playing a part to try and win. I would rate this a definite 5/5 stars because of the way the author leaves you hanging at the end of the chapters, as well as the end of the book. The sequels are just as good with the same suspense. I don’t think I would change anything about the book because as a whole it was really good and keeps you hooked throughout the entire story. I definitely would recommend this book if you are interested in dystopian societies, revolution, and a little bit of romance!

It is all about 2 sisters Linda and Larissa who are found and taken to a concentration camp where they are forced to work for their lives. Most people who are taken to a concentration camp are Jewish, these sisters were not , they were Ukrainian. Since they are Ukrainian they got little food, and harsh jobs and treatment. The sisters are split apart as soon as they go to camp. When Lida gets a job making bombs for the enemy she is absolutely beside herself. How can she stand to hurt others after she watches so many lives be taken in front of her eyes every day. Will she sabotage the bombs? Will Lida find Larissa?

Personal Review: I rate this book a 5/5 stars! I really enjoyed this book and how it kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time! I really liked how much detail was put into each page and that it really described what was going on. My favorite part in the book is when Larissa found Lida … it was definitely a plot twist. I definitely recommend this to girls 12+ who like lots of plot twists and drama in novels.

The main story that you follow is Lida’s she is a young girl that is taken along with her younger sister Larissa. They are both taken to a concentration camp but get seperated quickly when they go to get checked by doctors. Larissa was sent with a small group of young kids while Lida returns to the camp with everyone else. The whole way along Lida’s journey she is trying to find her sister. She makes friends, loses friends, gets jobs, visits the city, and more. Lida gets a job in the city to make bombs. Once Lida and the girls she worked with gained the supervisor's trust and they sabotage the bombs.

There isn’t anything that I would change about this book because I loved everything about it. I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars because I loved to learn about World War II while also getting a mysterious, surprising, and a touching story at the same time. I really like the part of the story when Lida, her sister, and a bunch of other kids are going to the concentration camp. I liked this part because Marsha di an amazing job of describing everything and painting a picture in my head. To me this book is for someone that likes dramatic storylines or likes a little bit of facts mixed in with the story.

Lara Jean is a sixteen year old girl and had crushes just like any other teenager. But when she had a crush, she wrote letters to them, but never gave the letters to them. She wrote letters to all of her major crushes, pouring her heart out. Lara Jean wrote five letters, for five crushes. One day, her letters got out. Lara Jean’s love life went from a fantasy, to a reality. Now, she has to learn how to deal with all the boy drama going on in her life.

I would rate this book a 4.5/5 stars because it was really good but some parts were dull. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before had a good plot and a good storyline. I would say the beginning was most dull but I liked the rest of the book. I would recommend this book to ages 12/13 and up, or to anyone that likes drama and romance novels. I would recommend To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before to those ages because it had some grown up actions/ and language (nothing to crazy). Jenny Han is an amazing author and I think she is very talented. I really liked this book and I would recommend!

Colten S.
Review of Eragon by Christopher Paolini
A Fiction Fantasy Novel.

Plot - In Eragon, a young farm boy named Eragon (Who would have thought) finds a blue stone that turns out to be a dragon egg. He decides to hide the dragon from his family in fear that the King Galbatorix (try and pronounce that) will have the dragon taken away if not killing it. Galbatorix sends minions who in the process of looking for the egg kill Eragons uncle, Garrow. Him and his newly hatched dragon plan to escape after the town starts getting suspicious. The old storyteller Brom finds out, but instead of telling the town, the old man adventures with him where they decide to chase the creatures who killed his uncle. Brom dies by Garrow's killers but Aragorn survives with the help of a new friend Murtagh. The decide to head to the rebel group Varden while being chased by monsters known as Urgals. Then the book ends with about 4 more for you to read.

I give this 4.5/5 evil Patrick stars.

The book was all around pretty interesting to read. The characters were all interesting, not too many cliches, and I couldn’t guess what was going to happen next all the time. With 500 pages, it never seemed to dull or lose interest. Maybe it was just me reading it all on a saturday, the latter half did seem slower than the rest.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys fantasy books. Just be warned these books are long. But I finished the first book and thought I might read the second one time, but not in one day.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

J.K Rowling

Fantasy

Harry Potter is back at school and he’s up to no good. As usual, of course. An elf just about ruins his chances at going to school, he and Ron crash Mr.Weasley's flying car, a ghost in the bathroom and so much more. This is Harry’s second year at hogwarts, and maybe the last year Hogwarts will even be around! When a strange monster is going around Hogwarts using petrification to take young victims, Harry and his friends must find out who is behind it all or else Hogwarts will become labeled unsafe, and shut down.

5 out of 5

♪ RATING PARAGRAPH♪

♪I liked how all of the characters were presented. Myrtle had a fantastic introduction and that was one of my favorite parts of the book. Draco was seen as even more mysterious when he announces to fake Crabbe and Goyle, that he would help the ‘Descendant of Slytherin’ (Excuse me, I forgot the specific term, just another note, I love Draco’s character so much, {which is why Half Blood Prince is actually my favorite favorite Harry Potter book}) Ron’s family also gets a bow, for all of the beautiful visuals of their house, however in the movie, I felt like it was quite different looking in my mind.

♪I HATED the character selection for GINNY TO HAVE TOM RIDDLE’S JOURNAL. Ginny didn’t fit the description, sure, the book was snuck into her stuff, but I would have loved it so much more if Hermione had the book instead. Accidently finding it in a Library ect. I know the Malfoys’ hate the Weasley’s but come on man they hate half-bloods so much more. I dunno, that’s just me talking, well typing. All in all, I finished the Chamber of Secrets in two days last year, and I remember it like it was yesterday, because it was one of my favorites. (Second to be exact)

♪I recommend this book to people (Who have already read book SS) who love fantasy and action.
