Allows one to focus on setting their own standards instead following a teacher set one, that could prove to be to easy or hard for one. And with something like music, that is a thing learn at all different speeds and methods.
With that, I'd say if it is well and rightly done, then it can prove well and easy for both Teacher and Student alike.
