Britain was the only country in world that had machines to weave textiles, and they did not want the rest of the world to know the plans to the machines. The machine plans were not allowed out of the country. Samuel Slater he memorized how each iron gear and wooden spool worked, and left Britain under a disguise and went to Pawtucket RI and opened the first large scale mill in the US Water power early mills built near rushing rivers, and waterwheels powered the machines connected to them. Steam engines were used to power the machines. Steam engins allowed production to expand and allowed textile mills and other factories to be built. Factories more people worked in factories, no longer working at homeworkers didn’t need the same type of skills. Factory workers were trained to run the machines. Many workers were women, children, and immigrants. Francis Cabot Lowell developed a new system of organizing factories entire process under one roof called the Waltham System. It provided boarding houses and good living conditions for his workers.
Eli Whitney invented interchangeable parts for guns which are parts that are exactly alike.
Mass production is a system of producing large amounts of goods at one time.

Supply and demand is when the supply of a product is high, prices fall, when the supply of a product is low,

prices rise

How was Lowell’s system of organizing factories different from other systems?

He put the entire process of converting cotton into cloth under one roof of his factory.

Cause:
In 1793, Eli Whitney developed a machine called the cotton gin, or engine.
Effect:
The cotton gin removed the seeds from cotton fibers much faster than by hand.
Cotton can be prepared for market in less time.
Plantations can grow more cotton.
Planters in the southern states consider cotton like "gold". They sold their cotton to textile mills in the northern states and in Europe.
