Research

I have done some more research and have found out that one of my ideas already has a music video, which I see as a great inspiration for my project, therefore I will be choosing the 1st of my ideas to develop further, a music video for the song Run, by Joji.

Lyric Analysis-
I have analysed some of the lyrics from the song and have been able to develop some themes and concepts for the video. There are themes of abandonment throughout, along with a surreal expectation for the relationship and a jealousy over were the other person has moved on to. Therefore, my themes in my final piece will be Abandonment, Surrealism and Jealousy/lack of understanding

Ideas & Inspirations-
The music video for Run (Directed by Aisultan Seitov) is a easy inspiration due to the shared topic. It also shows themes of
Isolation and distance. I also like the lighting and surrealist concepts. I would like to emulate there colour pallet as well, it has a hint of surrealism and neon darkness, like a empty high street.
Another inspiration is the music video for Emotions by Destiny's Child (Directed by Francis Lawrence).
Its a great concept. It has several different panels going on, all of them meeting at the end. The concept sounds challenging, and I could use it to show the two characters opposing views.

Surrealist Film Research-

Man with a film camera is a very old surrealist film from Russia. It uses cutaways and reversing shots to create a surrealist atmosphere to the scenarios being filmed. I could see myself using these techniques as they work really well in the film to make the viewer slightly on edge, something I want my viewers to feel while watching my music video.

Meshes of the Afternoon isn't exactly useful to me, it’s got some interesting shots and compositions I can take away, including the opening shot of her picking up the flower, which I really like the idea of and might put as the opening to my music video. However, the rest of the piece isn't very useful for what I want to portray in my final piece.

Running in Film Research-

Found a video of running in film, which has some really good inspiration in terms of filming running in different perspectives. That includes shots at 0;11, 1;32 & 2;11. All are really useful at portraying the emotion in the characters, therefore i think i might use all of them in my final piece. Originally i didn't think i would use shots of people actually running, but these 3 shots i think help a lot with displaying narrative and emotion in the music video, so i will try to include them

I have filled out 2 ideas, both music videos for songs i like recently
<var>https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1VVGnUoJX3gq29HzDp0P8D-r7qCu35qCp1YS5HgMdLKE/edit#slide=id.p</var>
The reason I chose the 'Music Video' format was because it lets me try out several different styles and aspects of film in one short.
-It tests my ability to create a narrative, something I haven't tried to do yet.
- I'm also able to test my framing of shots, as music videos are very aesthetically shot. Its also a format that involves storytelling through composition, more that other formats I have done on the course so far.
- Something I plan to do is use a lot of transitions, therefore i get to use my skills in editing, an area of film production i want to improve.

I'm currently experiencing differences in my learning, specifically the fact that everyone is self isolation, therefore we are learning from home. It is different to how i usually search with a lot of distractions. However, I'm finding a way to communicate with others and Im finding it more difficult but also like im getting more work done with much more time allocated towards it.
