The video showed that our society is very materialistic, yet are not aware of where their products come from. At times, people map out certain stores and plan ahead what products they want to go after. In a video I saw earlier this week about Black Friday in Canada, people were lined up to enter a store, unlike in the U.S, where people barge in, without respecting other people's safety. Black Friday in the U.S is unlike the ones that occur around the world due to the high level of materialism in the country.

The amount of people who rush into these stores, in order to purchase products that were made by people working for unfair wages, and thus the companies selling these products for much more is unthinkable. People must scout these stores prior to black friday in order to know exactly where things are. The U.S Black friday sprees compared to other countries such as the one in England and Canada, where it was very organized and structured shows the American desperation and barbaric-ness.

This video personifies Black Friday and its consumerism. It creates a sense of awareness and self realisation as to what us as individuals, part of the cycle of consumerism leave behind as a trail of negative impacts. Our impacts are often overshadowed by our results.

I thought it was interesting how all of the people pushing through the crowd to get a bargain, not realising how the clothes and products were made. I also find it interesting how people only care about black Friday because of these sales and not what its about. I also wonder if the people making all of the clothes have to work harder when there is a sale coming up

I get hella triggered when I see all of the people in the first world rushing to only get a tiny discount on their clothes that they are able to buy on a daily basis. Some of the people that are used to contrast the black friday shoppers, are in way worse situations, and are used to make the clothes that these shoppers are buying, and making bare moneys as a result. By putting the items on sale, the people manufacturing the goods are given even less money. Is the sale worth it in the long run for specifically clothes is the question that immediately rises.

It's crazy what people would do for cheaper items. I don't think that there is anywhere else that does something like that where you see crowds of people attacking each other for something that will be useless in a few months.

Interesting piece, showcasing black Friday. But my discontent for most of these pieces is the awareness is blatant. A recent study done in the new Yorker, shows that a majority of consumers in America know where they're clothes come from, and nothing has changed it. While the message the is good in this video, that all it has... is an already known message, it shows no real way that you can help or change your shopping habits. Like most videos on the internet, its fear mongering. People walk away from this video, only feeling guilt with no intention to change anything. As well to speak to the point of fear mongering, some of the images they were showing (while sad and should be helped) are just generic images of third world countries and the poverty that plagues them, not really anything practically due to clothe manufacturing. As well, while conditions in all countries should be humane, and some of the images of working conditions and chemical burns is horrific. Out sourced labor, while it is not alway glamorous, actually keeps many countries out of poverty. Of course, more often than not these workers are mistreated, but its not all, in fact out sourced labour of GAP and American Outfitters has actually increased they're working conditions in Sri Lanka and India. In summation, this is a complex issue, and quick catchy 2 min
video showing some scary images (with not all related) and good music, with no real intention to help does nothing. Awareness is already done for many issues including this one, its should be about what can we do to change.

having lived in pakistan you see the poverty and what chilren are forced into doing (working in factories with little pay etc) but people would rather just push all of this under the rug and forget how things are made and just enjoy the items.
