Work Philosophy - Hawaiian Values

Pa'ahana- Hard working

I believe that being a hard worker, being initiative is my number one value.

I knew that I wanted to become a manager at a luxury hotel/flights/boutique level from a young age. I have started from the bottom up being Sales Associate, from the first moment when I got hired back in 2013, from the very beginning I always opened myself available when others needed me and always carried positive attitude. My self being a Millenial, I am super great with the computer. I was the first one there when an issue raised, I was a local computer magician who fixes all the technical issues. When I was not assisting clients, I always asked others if they needed any help with anything at all. Shopping bags need to be refilled? Here I am the first one leaving to restock. Glasses need to be wiped? Here I am wiping it down already. Wrapping other client’s gifts, straightening out displays, organizing the whole floor. I was always humble, took every step I was doing out purely of my heart. I was so very grateful that I was working at the luxury level at such a young age building my profile and experience. Whenever I faced a challenge, I was not afraid to call someone for help or ask them why they handled it a certain way as they did. I have a great relationship with everyone at the store. I started from the bottom up. My coworkers sometimes mistreated me because of my age. Because I was the first one to do everything, there were some people just have relied on me. I never decline to 50 hour work week, came to work on my day off to complete a project, taking the role, actually volunteering when no one else wants to.

Aloha - Love

I always made myself approachable to others. Because I was young, people definitely were not intimidated to talk, coach, shape me. Even as a manager I think of myself as a sales associate with the store key. Anyone could come up and ask me a problem in their daily lives such as how should I talk to my teenage daughter? Can you meet my boyfriend tell me if he’s a great fit as a future husband, what were the color choices for this season again? I thanked everyone for coming in to shift, I made everyone feel valued. Even Sales associate from other stores were contacting me on how great I am doing, corporate office giving me more responsibility. My regional manager came down to personally deliver the promotion. Believe me, I watched SO many TED talks and so many books about how to handle different personality. I even took Anthropology to understand others and taking this class on how to become a better human/manager. In my belief, teamwork is great but if you are being approachable and getting along great with others, teamwork has set the ground already. I could inspire people’s lives- I always thought if I screw up, they’re never going to hire another young candidate. I knew I’m in a position where I have a little contribute to having a great or bad week for others.

Kuleana - Responsibility

I never put any less effort into everything I am doing. With or without my name on the project, I made sure that everything I see and do is at 100%. I never think that I can put half the effort so other people can take care of it and follow up, if this is the case I would assign work to others instead of so everyone is on the equal page. Being 500% on everything I do puts me in a great spot.
