Response: This passage demonstrates Mrs. Hutchinson's eagerness to participate in the lottery.  She actually encourages her husband forward, contrary to her later protests that he was not given enough time.  She is such a hypocrite!

The Lottery is used, as you can find out in the end, for population control , so they would be able to have more food available for everyone.
