I often start with explaining something & then asking the students do something to consolidate understanding or practise with an assignment on Classroom. I tell them that I won't be marking everything, but that I will check how they are getting on. I tell them how long they have to complete the activity and when they need to be back in the lesson Meet. 
It gives you a great record of participation (you can download a spreadsheet) and you can see what they are struggling with. Login with Google account and get 60 days Trial Teacher plan. Allows you to add text, highlighting etc add help video and audio instructions to the pdf to guide learners. Links with Google Classroom but Trial Plan doesn't allow learners to directly to Turnin, they need to create a copy and upload.
