Academic Coaches Hour of Code Share by Robin

Mr. Marshall's address: 4768 Palestine Rd. Springfield, TN 37172 😊 Think of a teacher(s) that you could share a specific hour of code activity with. Spend some time locating a specific coding activity that would support their instruction. Work through the activity. Finally, on this Padlet Wall, post your name, the coding activity you chose and the grade level/content area it will support.

I will share Dance Party with our music teacher to see if we can brainstorm a way to incorporate it into his instruction.

I will also share The Grinch with our tech coach who is a first grade teacher. We will brainstorm ways to incorporate it into a busy day. We will hope to share this success with others. An idea is to use in Tier 1 Math RTI.

I will share this with Sharon Burchett, carol Branlund, and Tammy Wrenn. We will look at classlink and the various activities and see which they can do with their grade levels to impact the most students. I was very impressed with the varying content. Since i have grades 3-6, I want them to be able to decide which activity will work best for their instructional needs. I am thinking the dance party activity would be good for music… the Grinch activity or one similar would be good for STEM or computer. Due to their schedules and the rotations they might both do the same activity.

Our table discussed sharing the ideas presented and opportunities to implement the activities with tech coach. Discussing activities appropriate for various grade levels with RA teachers (specifically computer and music) would ensure all students participate in Hour of Code. I will share a few of the activities per grade level in PLC to provide teachers ideas to implement the last week before Christmas break.

I would share the hour of code activity called Dodo Does Math with our math teachers. It incorporates Geometry and Measurement standards. It would make a great center. Many of the math activities would serve as a great enrichment activity for our higher Tier 1 groups. Krista :)

Also, I will share this in our PLC meetings so that teachers have ideas for opportunities in the computer lab that pertain to their learning targets. I've been pushing them to use our labs more, and I really see opportunities for this in RTI Tier 1 groups. The particular one I played with today was called from Hero to Super Hero. It might be nice to use after a writing. Students could name their hero and then go in the lab and create their heroes as Super Heroes.
