In order to provide for a better global health, we, as public health officials, need to recognize and address some of the vulnerabilities we have as a society in regards to disease eradication. These vulnerabilities can come from both a national and international scale in which individual countries need to prioritize public health within their populations. Interventions such as better public awareness, push back against stigma, and easier available treatment services are prime examples of what we can do in creating a world without diseases.

Thailand HIV Response

This article showcases the improving rates of HIV incidence within the country due to public health interventions. In terms of numerical data, as of 2016, "89% of people living with HIV know their status, 72% receive ART and 82% have viral load testing – 99% of whom are suppressed" (Siraprapasiri 2016). Policy changes such as no longer requiring parental consent for HIV testing in young people and better health insurance access has contributed to these numbers. But at the same time, there is still a number of stigma and discriminations being faced by HIV-positive individuals that will possibly take a long while to change.

This article describes the barriers and way of life that men who have sex with men have to deal with in terms of HIV topic. "Participants also reflected on the provision of quality health care as part of participation in the trial, as well as support from clinical research staff, family and friends as helpful in supporting high rates of study medication adherence. Discourse concerning challenges to adherence included medication taking behavior, which was contextualized by lifestyle, living arrangement, social life, social stigma in terms of being mistakenly identified as HIV positive or unintentional disclosure of sexual identity to family and friends, and relationship conflicts with partners" (Tangmunkongvorakul et. al 2012).

This article, like the Thailand one, showcases the barriers that men go through within the topic of HIV services. Particularly, Zimbabwe men face the social issues of toxic masculinity in portraying the idea of strong, highly sexually active, and economically productive. These social norms have been preventing many men from accessing services and less supportive social spaces.
