Sicily is an island located in the Mediterranean Sea, south of Italy. The Sicilian part of my family comes from Siracusa, which is on the southeastern coast of Sicily. Sicily is like a melting pot of various traditions and influences.

My great-great-grandfather Dominick, immigrated from Sicily. He came here to America by boat, and he settled in downtown New York City. He had four sons, the oldest of the four was my great-grandfather Carmelo Carime, he had three children two sons, and one daughter. His daughter is my grandmother. When I visit my Sicilian side of my family it's a very large group because the brothers of my great-grandfather had large families. My great-uncle Carol is the oldest of the three children from my great-great-grandfather. He has a family of four, my great-uncle James (Jimmy) had three sons and passed away in February of last year. My grandma had one son and one daughter, my uncle Dennis had one son and my mom had me and my sister.

My family passed on our religious beliefs, special recipes, and handy crafts like knitting and sewing. One uniting factor for all of the cultural groups of my family tree, Colombian, Irish, Croatian, and Italian are devout Roman Catholics. My favorite Italian recipes that my grandma makes are her eggplant parmesan and cannoli, however I also enjoy her Irish soda bread. This project is covering my Italian heritage, but I am a child of a multicultural family. I am first generation American on my dad's side, and fourth generation American on my mom's side. I love being an Italian American, but I am truly proud to have such a diverse background.
