The Bay of Pigs Invasion, was an unsuccessful invasion of Cuba by Cuban exiles,who were supported by the U.S. Cuban exiles landed in the Bay of Pigs on the south coast of Cuba. Trained since May, 1960, by members of the CIA with the approval of the Eisenhower administration, and supplied with arms by the U.S. government, the rebels intended to foment an insurrection in Cuba and overthrow the Communist regime of Fidel Castro.

The Cuban army easily defeated the rebels. The invasion provoked anti-U.S. demonstrations in Latin America and Europe and further embittered U.S.-Cuban relations. This plan was a failure because it wasp poorly planned and executed.

2) The Bay of Pigs was a internal war that consisted on USA supplying to the anti-Castro exiles, that lived in America and help they to invade Cuba. The invasion was a totally failure. Castro captured them all within three days and finished the battle. This defeat helped Castro to have strength in his position as a leadership, also strengthen the relations between Cuba and the Soviet Union.

This invasion failed because of many actions:

The CIA thought that the Cuban people be against Castro but they were wrong.
The Cuban knew that a invasion was coming.
When they entered the Cuban territory they failed to organise resistance inside it.
There were in disadvantage with speaking Spanish.
They did not analyse lot enough the Cuban army.
There was poor communication in the anti-Castro squad.

Kennedy made personal pleas for contributions from pharmaceutical companies and baby food manufacturers, and Castro eventually settled on $53 million worth of baby food and medicine in exchange for the prisoners.
On December 23, 1962, just two months after the end of the Cuban Missile Crisis, a plane containing the first group of freed prisoners landed in the United States.

This invasion failed because of several reasons, the main where:

- JFK was mislead by the CIA and the exiles, making him think that the cuban people where going to rebel against Castro.

- Soviet inteligence knew about the invasion well before it happened, giving the cubans time to prepare.

- The invasion itself was misplanned, and the exiled "troops" where badly equiped.

- USA didnt want to be related to this invasion, so the goverment dindt send more troops once the invasion seemed not to be succuesfull.

2) The bay of pigs was the name of an invasion planned by the US, more specifically from the campaign of Eisenhower’s CIA and then Kennedy was the one who decided to execute that plan. It consisted in invading Cuba with people exiled from cuba. They would first destroy their air force army since it was pretty small, then they would take of and do the rest by hand with arms. But luckily for Cuba it didn't work. Why? Because castro knew about this plan because, somehow, this leaked to the press who told everybody. After this the president prepared everything so to avoid losing. First they moved their planes to other places out of danger. After this, Cuban exiles began invading in the in the south part of an island known as the Bay of Pigs. turns out, it didn't work almost immediately Every movement from them was broadcasted to all cuban by radio so people would be aware from the invaders. Paratroopers didn't land where they should. As US ships arrived to cuba some of them sank by the coral reefs and Castro's troops cornered the enemies in less than a day fighting so they surrendered. 114 people ended dead and 1100 were taken as prisoners.

2) Before the invasion, there was a dictator in Cuba called Fulgencio Batista, who the US endorsed due to his anti-communist views, the tension of the Cold War and for economical reasons. What followed this corrupt agreement was a revolution in Cuba in 1959 led by Fidel Castro. Although it was not originally a communist revolution, Castro’s nationalist group started taking private property owned by the state claiming it had not been legally acquired since it had been done during the Batista regime. Following this, many educated middle and upper-class Cubans migrated to the US, mainly to Florida. Americans were concerned about the spread of communism since this happened during the Cold War, and they are afraid Castro was going to align himself with the USSR. In 1961, J.F. Kennedy became president of the US and along with CIA Director Allen Dulles, he joined forces with the Cuban exiles (around 1400) to try and oust Castro, though trying to make it look like the US did not participate in this. The problem with the Americans was that the president was kept in a sort of bubble by the CIA, making him think that the Cubans would for sure want Castro to be overthrown, but this was not the case. Many of them were poor and did not own land and so for them, communism did not sound bad at all. To hide the fact that the invasion was carried out by American intelligence, they used planes with Cuban military symbols and this would cause confusion. To begin the six-day-long attack, the US launched airplanes from Nicaragua to weaken the Cuban army, bombing Havana and the surroundings of Guantánamo Bay. Then, they strategically had a bullet hole filled plane fly from Cuba to Florida, to give the impression that the bombings were being carried out by a Cuban plane. In spite of all this strategy, most people knew it was a US attack. Then, Americans sent ships near the Cuban shore that sounded like they were firing bullets, again to cause confusion. Later the actual invasion took place and the 1400 exiles arrived at the Bay of Pigs, where they were not met with the support they were promised to get by the people of Cuba, according to the CIA. Over 100 of them were killed and about 1000 were captured. These prisoners were later exchanged to the US for money and resources. The intervention was made by the paramilitary group called Brigade 2506 on April 17 of 1961. I think the Vietnam war left a lot of death and Americans felt bad about this. This was one of the reasons the public opinion turned against the war in 1968. The war also exposed racial inequality in the USA because more African Americans were drafted than whites Americans. Lastly, the war also drained a lot of money that could be used to better purposes. The quote was taken from the adult novel Leaving Kent State, a book about the shooting in the Kent State University that happened because of a protest about the Vietnam war. I decided to use this quote because it reflects the thoughts of the American people about the war. They didn't want to continue war, they just wanted to stop the death and make peace.

1)The Vietnam War divided generationally the USA where the young people were against the war and the elder was in favor of it because they weren’t recruited and it’s divided it into liberalism and conservationism. Moreover the complaint of the rights of black people caused changes in the treatment from the government to the civilians. Along with this there is a rise of mistrust because there is a belief that the government doesn’t tell the whole truth which all this was strengthen with the Watergate scandal.

Another repercussions of the Vietnam War were the economic crisis of the 70’s, the ending of the forced recruitment which this included that the government started campaigning in schools because people didn’t seem to enlist by themselves and the expansion of the vote for people over 18 years.

Muhammad Ali’s quote is based on the anti-Establishment (young people saw many wrongs perpetuated by society and began to question "the Establishment"), it shows how people saw the war as a war for the government and not for the country. Furthermore he talks about the racial disparity including the black and Muslim black movements which it conclude in the obtainment of civil rights for black people.

I’ve chosen this quote because it’s represented by someone who’s comparing himself with other people like him that are 10,000 miles away but they have his same thoughts, believes and religion. Additionally it shows clearly that the war wasn’t for the wealth of the country but for the disruption of freedom and peace.

2) This report is worth to be read and I bolded the Director of the museum's quote because the Bay of Pigs invasion was a great failure to the USA thanks to the opposition of cubans to overthrow Castro. American government thought that they would put an end to the leader of Cuba by the support of people there and not only by the military invasion. They clearly thought wrong and this failure reinforced the Cuban nationalism and the impossibility to USA to be involved in the Cuban government again.

The 'perfect failure' of Cuba invasion

Fifty years ago, shortly before midnight on 16 April 1961, a group of some 1,500 Cuban exiles trained and financed by the CIA launched an ill-fated invasion of Cuba from the sea in the Bay of Pigs. The plan was to overthrow Fidel Castro and his revolution.Instead, it turned into a humiliating defeat which pushed Cuba firmly into the arms of the Soviet Union and has soured US-Cuban relations to this day.

The Bay of Pigs is a large isolated inlet on Cuba's southern coast. The beach at Playa Giron, a village with a small airstrip at the mouth of the Bay of Pigs, was the invaders' primary target. (To this day, it is referred to in Cuba as the Playa Giron invasion.) A simultaneous landing was planned near the village of Playa Larga, 35km away at the far end of the bay. An old, fortified concrete trench dug into the coconut palm-fringed beach is one of the only visible reminders of the historic battle. Fidel Castro had ordered defences like these to be built at key points throughout the island - an invasion was widely expected, but no-one had any idea where it was going to land.

The American plan was to sneak ashore virtually unopposed, secure the area, take the airfield and fly in a government-in-exile who would then call for direct US support. At the same time, they were relying on a mass uprising in Cuba against the revolutionaries.

It could not have gone more wrong: when an advance frogman lit a beacon to show the exiles where to land, it also alerted the Cuban militia to their presence. Reinforcements, including Cuban air force planes, quickly arrived.

The exiles had some air support, but US President John F Kennedy was determined to keep the US involvement a secret and as the initiative turned against the invading force, he backed away from providing further critically needed air cover.

At the same time, Fidel Castro took personal charge of the operation, and within only three days the battle was over. More than 1,000 of the anti-Castro fighters, known as Brigade 2506, were taken prisoner. About a year-and-a-half later, they were sent back to Miami in exchange for $50m worth of food and medicine.

There is a small museum in Playa Giron. In the forecourt are two of Fidel Castro's tanks, along with a British-built Sea Fury fighter bomber, one of the Cuban air force planes used against the invaders.The US, she believes, completely underestimated the degree of support for Fidel Castro's revolution inside Cuba.

Half a century after the failed invasion, this Caribbean island remains the only communist-run country in the Western hemisphere. Despite countless attempts by the CIA to assassinate Fidel Castro, it was ill health which finally forced him to hand over power in 2006 - to his brother, Raul. It is no coincidence that the authorities have chosen this weekend to hold the long-delayed Communist Party Congress, which will kick off with a military parade through Revolution Square. With the US trade embargo still in place, Cuba insists that it remains in a state of siege. While it is set to ratify a series of market reforms, the Congress is also set to reaffirm the "socialist character of the revolution". Political change remains no nearer now than it did following Cuba's victory at the Bay of Pigs.

I love this quote because I do not only admire the man who said it, but also explains how the government of the United States (with nixon at the time) repressed the social movements that marched against the war.

The Bay of Pigs invasion was significant because it got Fidel Castro to worry about the United States and how they might have the power to conquer Cuba.

The invasion happened on April 17, 1961 to April 19th, 1961 it lasted two days and it was against the United States and Cuban Exiles vs. Cuba. The United States then President John F. I totally agree with Jody Williams, I can’t imagine the effects that can have a landmine. Apart from killing soldiers also destroy the environment. I believe that war is just a waste of time and money to get to the point where the members of the same lose thousands and thousands of people without thinking about environmental damage, the depression of the loser and above all be so stupid to self-convince that it was worth it. Surely many of those who did not participate in a war or have no family or friend who has been in that situation think that it is the survival of the strongest but I still think it is the survival of the most intelligent after all we are not animals and we can reach an agreement.

I think I deserve at least a 7 or an 8 because i did the work as it should be done. I didn´t neither copy-paste nor did it after the dead line but most important of all, I understood what I wrote instead of just vomiting words and phrases taken from google or random web pages. I can't punctuate an opinion but I answered all the questions that where asked and fully completed the tasks without errors as far as I saw so I think it's correct what i did and couldn´t find any improvement or correction to make.
