As a working student and aspiring entrepreneur in the field of F&B, I am an advocate for workers’ rights, not only for my own sake, but for the entire Filipino working class. I can barely cover my own allowance and I cannot imagine how difficult it must be for those who have to provide for a family of four or more on minimum wage.

Personal Significance - Job Displacements

The recent POGO ban has a personal significance as it shows the government shifting toward prioritizing public safety over economic interests,which resonates with my values of protecting communities from the government's lack of empathy. While I understand the government's need to take a firm stance, I also empathize with the thousands of Filipinos who will be displaced by the ban, as it disrupts their livelihoods.

Personal Significance - A.I. Replacing Jobs

Artificial intelligence is everywhere and has been for the longest time, and this is not exclusive to the Philippines. Nowadays, we can see that I.T. jobs are first to be significantly affected by A.I. being able to replicate hundreds of lines of code without stopping. A.I., as well, is generative and always takes input from human sources, and because of that, this affects even the creative aspects of certain occupations. Those affected include even hobbies I enjoy such as art, music and especially writing. I have friends who are especially affected, since they plan to work in the ICT field, and A.I. is a major concern for them.

The issue of underemployment has always been concerning to me, as I have many relatives with college degrees who are now in jobs unrelated to their fields just to earn quickly, or even ones that don't have jobs at all. These jobs, often unstable, reflect the urgency of financial survival despite being far from what they are qualified for.
