A day started in Pusat Perubatan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Cheras Kuala Lumpur. I was appointed to do my attachment in Jabatan Kerja Sosial Perubatan. My working hours are from 8.00am to 5.00pm.

Firstly, I met the Head of 'Unit Latihan and Pembangunan' Madam Che Ku Nazita. I reported myself at 8.00am and she confirmed my presence. She hand in some documents that need to me that I have to pass it to my head in JKSP.

I went to JKSP at 8.30am and met the Head of the Department Madam Suraiyah Binti Harun. I was welcomed by her. She explained about JKSP and we had a small briefing about the job.

So, my job scope here is to learn the procedure and process of activities conducted by JKSP and also help the staffs in promoting and helping patients to get medication and medical equipments. 

Then, she introduced me to all the senior staffs. She also gave me a book regarding JKSP. It was the annual report of the year 2017. It has all the important elements of JKSP. 

After the break,  I was sent to the front counter to see the work processes.

Today was my second day in PPUKM, I came in at 7.50am.

I was asked to create a simple Crossword puzzle game for upcoming event that JKSP going to do next month. 

I took plenty of time to create a good crossword puzzle. They asked me to insert the words that related to 'Medical Social Work'. 

After that I went to Safety Department to make a temporary safety pass. It required some documents and photo. I finished up the procedure in Safety department I went back to office and had a small meeting with Head of Department.

Then, an officer wants to collect patient's report and need enquiry on that patient's case. She asked me to follow her. She brought me to Psychiatric Department (Female ward). Unfortunately the patient was sleeping due to high dosages given by the doctor. We returned back to office and continued with office work.

Today morning I straight away went to the Auditorium in Medicine Faculty UKM which also located in the hospital compound. I was asked to join the conference held.  I attended the Clinicopathological Conference together with medical students. The topic arises was 'Seven Times Lucky : The Curious case of an Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) 

• Then, we went to review a seven years old boy case who diagnosed by Presumed Meningitis. Mr Khairul (officer)  taught me the way to investigate the patient's guardian.

Miss Suhailah (officer) requested me to call a patient and ask for some information. She gave me the case report and explained to me what should I do.  Before contacting  the patient I studied the case file carefully. I talked to the patient and gathered the needed information and also suggested the patient to come and meet the JKSP officers for further procedures. 

• I helped out the send 8 boxes of milked based supplement powder to patient until the hospital's lobby.

On my 5th day,  I attended a meeting with the Head of the Department and other JKSP officers in meeting room.  The matter discussed was about 'Sambutan Hari Kerja Sosial Perubatan'. The officers with decided protocols updated the progress then she asked for suggestions to make to exhibition more attractive. After some suggested Ideas, we have divided some work among ourselves

Next,  I attended another meeting with officers from Jabatan Kebajikan Malaysia, Head of psychiatric, doctors and occupational therapist to discus about a case.

Another new week after orientation week.  Today my task was,  I had to make a phone conversation with a patient. I made a phone call via office's number to a patient to get know the patient's problems and details. The patient cooperated to me well and answered the questions asked by me.  I've take noted the given information. Once we finished with our conversation. I made a report with required information. 

Then,  I learned about Dasar Komuniti Kesihatan. It is one of the main thing that every staffs should update themselves with latest Health Laws.

Today was a good indeed where we went to patient's house for a inspection. First, we went to an Indian male patient. I talked to him and his family to get some details about his medication and financial aided.

Today also we went to Home Visits.  Which mean we went patients house. First we visited a 16 years old boy who is having psychiatric problem. He behaved aggressively until having knife to attack people and  chased us away. Then,  we received the information from his mother. 

Next,  we went to the house of the  most challenging case of JKSP since last year.  Very poor and problematic family background. I went and talked to the patient's mother and asked for their needs and wants.

In the morning I was writing my draft of my daily report then we went to the Baitumal MAIWP office.

Today was a fresh Monday for me.  I started the day with a meet up with my Head of Department. She was asking about my progress and the experience that I had for past 2 weeks. 

Then, I had a discussion with  JKSP's officer Madam Yanti regarding the flyers that I've done last week. She went through it one by one and asked me to make some corrections. Later, after sometimes with the guidance of Madam Yanti I made the corrections and saved it laptop.

Today, I was in front counter. Many patients came and expressed their wants and needs.  Some came meet with JKSP Officers as they were recommended by Doctors. 

Luckily today I had a chance to deal with a patient. The patient is a deaf and dumb. He is unable to speak and hear since small. He came here to seek for welfare for his right eye cataract. The officer gave me his case file. I read it carefully then interviewed him. I have to use sign language to him for certain things and the rest I wrote the questions in a paper and he replied by writing back the answers. It was a good experience handling patient like this.

On my 13th day in JKSP, in the morning I was assigned to make a phone call  to a patient and interview her view phone.  The patient unable to talk as she is  unwell so I talked to her sister to know their background and purpose of welfare request for operation of Intraocular Lens.

Later, in the evening side I was in the front counter handling some patients and patient's guardian.

 Today in the morning  I had a conversation with Madam Intan officer in JKSP about a case where we supposed to visit the patient yesterday at his home but the patient passed away morning itself. Madam Intan was clarifying the case from beginning to to end.  

Then, I went to the front counter and received some patients' documents and some came to refer officers.  I observe the way how the officers handle their patients. I also learned about 'Rekod Tambang Pesakit' and hand in the transportation money to patient.

Friday morning, I talked to a patient regarding his problem and the documents that he has to submit. 

Then, Mr Khairul officer in JKSP taught me how to extract the written report's information and change it to soft copy report format.  Both things are differ from another. I read through the old report and did the new report of a patient. Some of the information were unclear then I asked Mr Khairul for further clarification. Later,  I've done the report and gave it back to Mr Khairul.

Today, we went to Pediatric ward to visit a girl and sent her to Orphanage Home. Mr Khairul brought me there to to give me exposure about Pediatric patients. 

We went to Rumah Titian Kasih located in Semenyih. The 16 years old girl that we have sent there is having mental depression because of her left boyfriend and she got pregnant in a young age. For a better solution. Pediatric Doctors and Officers decided her to stay in Rumah Titian Kasih for further treatment.

Today I went to send patient to old folks home with Officer Puan Hajar . The old folks home named as Pusat Jagaan Siti Nor Ain. 

We sent the patient and gave Wheelchair as the patient is unable to walk.  The management requested the wheelchair for the patient. On that note, we gave the wheelchair and medicine recommended by the doctor.

Today my Head of Department Puan Suraiyah brought me to an important place. Our journey started in the morning heading to Rumah Perantaraan Flat Sri Labuan which is located near to hospital (about 2 km). This house is specially arranged for the patient who aged above 18 years old. A patient who has appointment or checkup for frequent times may apply the house which cost RM 5 per day. The patient may bring his/her family to stay with them until the treatment finishes.  

They have around 9 units of house in that Flat Sri Labuan. Patient and his/her family may stay there and spend quality time together.  All the facilities are there including cooking appliances. It helps the patient to save money and spend in taking care of their health.

From today onwards the work for International Social Work Day is commencing. As a beginning all JKSP staffs went to take formal photoshoot for this year. The photoshoot took place in another area called SUKMARIA. The staffs asked me to take care of the office for a while. So, I was the only one responsible to take charge of the office for a while. 

I received 4 patients with different cases. I took their information and passed it to the officers.

Today I printed the invitations and invited guest's name list, agenda of the day for 40 people. 

I arranged  all the name list, agenda's list and invitation. Then I stamped 'Refer to' stamp on the name list in each and every invitation one by one according to the invited guest's list.  

Then, all the papers were stapled together and I folded the papers nicely and inserted it in the envelope.

Today,  I've been given some files and notes to be pasted on the files given.  I have to remove the old tagged note and replace it will the new note.

It includes many things like Head tilt, Skew deviation (Vertical misalignment of the eyes), Ocular torsion (Abnormal eyes rotation), Vestibule Ocular Reflex (VOR)

I did the comparison of 2017 and 2018 of the overall statistics.

The statistics include many things example like number of cases, number of disease, number of given equipments, number of patients' accommodated in Flat Sri Labuan  and many more statistics.

I did the statistics one by one very carefully. I did Bar chart and Pie Chart to indicate the statistics given. 

I did the pie chart and bar chart with more attractive colours that attracts people's attention. 

Then, I printed it immediately with correct alignment and kept it.

Went for a home visit today.  Miss Suhaizah brought me to visit a psychiatric patient in Bandar Permaisuri,KL.

The patient is an Indian woman who is staying with her daughter in a small house. We went to see the current situation of the family.  As we discovered the family really need help from JKSP for the patient's medical expenses. The patient also looks so weak and need help by mentally and physically.

Today I attended an event held in the hospital. I went to 'Sambutan Hari Buah Pinggang' (National Kidney Day) bring celebrated.  

The talk given by doctors and patients were truly inspiring. 

From this event I also got a chance to learn more about kidney where there were many booths were set up to show case the importance of kidney in our body,  way to prevent kidney failure and many aided facilities to the patients.

Today, Mr Khairul and Mrs Yanti brought me to Printing shop in Taman Connaught to Print and laminate  the posters and flyers I did for International Social Work Day. 

Nearly more than 60 papers of A3 and A4 printing have been done. 

We had a very tough time in printing those papers because the format ran when it was transferred to the PC in that printing shop. 

But, we manage to do it after some time. Due to lack of time we said we will collect the printed papers tomorrow.

I've been assigned to make a video for the department. I used the department's laptop to make the video but unfortunately the laptop doesn't have a Movie Maker in it.  I tried to download  in many different ways but failed to install. My Head of Department brought me out today.  We visited 'Ronald Mc'Donald House which is located in the hospital compound. It is one of the facilities provided by Mc Donalds and UKM Hospital. It is playing role as a 'Rumah Perantaraan' for Pediatric patient. Pediatric patient aged below 18 may stay here with his/her parents with only RM5 per day.  It helps the parents/guardian to accompany their child to finish his/her treatment. It facilitate 19 rooms with fully air-conditioned, living room, dining area, kitchen to cook, Surau. RMH also completed with playground, playing room, computer lab and library to the kids to spend their time.

Today I followed Officer Mr Faiz Sabli to send a patient at his house.

The patient was admitted due to gastric problem yet the patient is a drug addict. 

We went to his house to send him, as he told to us he stays alone in the house and nobody to take care of him.  But,  the moment we entered his house we met another 2 people looks like drug addict too.  His house exactly looks like a place where drug dealing activities are being held.

The most awaited day has arrived. After long preparations for the event. Today is the International Social Work Day. 

All the JKSP officers and staffs were wearing same formal clothes. I also joined them with the team colour. 

In the morning we were really busy set up the booths, sticking the posters and flyers that I've done in the mounting board. 

Then, the ceremony begins formally with the speech of the Dean of the Hospital followed by Head of JKSP Puan Suraiyah. Then, officiate the booths. Many booths from outside also join us to promote their work. 

There was a talk regarding importance of health. 

I was a great day indeed with good memories and knowledge

We went to Taska Permata Pusat Perubatan Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia which is also located on the hospital compound. It is Child care centre especially made for staffs, Doctors, nurses in PPUKM. They may let their child in morning and have a frequent visit meanwhile they have a free time during their work. 

From the age of 8 months to 6 years old, the Taska taking care with good care by giving quality learning and moral values. More than 15 teachers / caretakers are there. 

I had chance to interact with the kids. I remembered the same thing I did for Health Promotion Subject.  Teaching about importance of washing hand.  The same thing I did here,, I helped the students to wash their hands after their meal. The students are very clever and being really hygenic.

Today, I followed officer Puan Hajar to ward visit. 

We went to visit an orthopedic patient. His palm has been amputated due to diabetes. He suffer to move around.

We talked to him and gave him some ways to be active 

He requested for wheel chair,  after interviewed him we have jotted down the information he conveyed.

Puan Hajar and Mr Syamsul brought me to orthopedic female ward to meet a patient. 

The patient is requesting band for her knee stability. She literally couldn't walk because he knew doesn't support the process.

Regarding  the cochlear implant I called to  patient's father  via telephone to inquire some details about the patient.

15 years old boy is requesting for cochlear implant replacement where the old implanted cochlear equipment spoiled. 

On that note,  the boy is unable to hear properly. So,  the father request to the equipment and cochlear implant operation

Today all the staffs involve in CPD 

Puan Yanti presented the slide of cochlear implant. It was informative to other staffs too.  Mr Faiz Sabli also presented about the role of JKSP and officers.

Then, the was a Speaker from outside to promote their Cochlear implant equipment. 

I got a chance to see the overall equipments. It cost nearly RM18,000.

Today I helped staffs in front counter attending patients

Then, I had to do report about a patient which is about 2 vessels disease post PCi presented with STEMi. 

Before doing the report I studied first about STEMi. 

I've done the report and submitted to the officer  for further procedures.

Miss Suhaizah brought me there with 1 doctor, 1 nurse and 2 medical students. We went together to meet the patients at their respective houses. 

First we went to a house to inquire a patient and the doctor came to do check up and the nurse came to put injection. 

Next we went to another patient's house to give medicine.

I was a the front counter with master students

Then,  we were called inside for certificate giving ceremony 

The certificate was given to all 4 students including me. (3 postgraduate students and me) 

The staffs wished us Thank you and good luck for future

They asked us to share our experience 

I thanked them and shared some experience and learning through the journey in JKSP.

As many staffs were on holiday for Raya. The office lacking of people

I went to front counter to attend patients. I helped Kak Noraini (Nurse)  to deal with patients and receive the documents. 

There were only few patients as the Raya session has started. So,  that day went on smoothly.
