It is the people's responsibility/duty to actively participate in their government. Oftentimes, citizens feel that no matter how loud they shout their opinions, no one will listen to them. Therefore, we, the people, need to work hard to have things we want done. People elect government officials, but keep them from abusing the power they wield. I chose assignment 5.6 because it's an interview I had with a registered voter on why they do or don't vote. Voting is a major way for people do express their opinions; it's how we give power to those we think will use it right. They choose a representative that they feel will listen to their needs. In the interview, many other articles, interview results, etc., that I read, many said that some people don't vote because they feel that their opinion doesn't matter. This assignment may not have much to show, but the idea behind it is why I chose it.

The Six Principles

The Six Principles of Government is Federalism, Popular Sovereignty, Separation of Powers, Checks and Balances, Judicial Review, Limited Government. In this system, everything balances out; the amount of government interference is limited=to the people playing a bigger role in their government, while separation of powers goes hand in hand with checks and balances as the government is separated into different branches who all keep each other from having too much power over each other. I chose assignment 3.3 because here I made a poster explaining every principle and why it's important for our government to be effective.

Fighting For What You Believe in No Matter What

Here is one of our civilian duties; fighting for what we believe in. If we let the government rule our lives, we most likely won't be very happy. As beings with a temper, we choose to speak out about things that upset us. We choose not to sit on the side and let everything push us around. I chose this assignment (I'm unsure of the assignment number) because even thought this poster was made to explain how the issue is a natural right, the issue itself is one that many people are fighting over. In the poster, I briefly go over why the issue is being fought for. I feel that the eposter accurately depicts civilians protesting, marching, and working to get their rights the people fighting for what they believe in.

Final Reflection

Civics is really about the people; It's by the people, for the people. It some way, civilians are the government, even though we have elected officials. Even though we have elected officials to do the dirty business, they really are just doing what we tell them to do (or, at least, what we want them to do). However, as easy as it may seem, it really isn't. There are times when the government doesn't listen to what we want, they chose to do their own thing. So we, the people, have to work for it. If we want it, we fight for it. And that's what we do. Civics is the responsibilities and duties of the civilians. It's not easy getting our points across, but we work hard. In today's lazy society, we tend to get up and march for the things we really believe in.

What Have I Learned From Using All These Web 2.0 Tools?

Before this course introduced me to these different ways of expressing my work, I believed that Google Presentations was the only way I could do anything. However, after all the worksheets and visuals I had to make, I discovered tools that are so much better than any google product. These tools have so many more capabilities that allow me to decorate as I please. These tools taught me to be creative, there's more to life than just typing bullet points and adding pictures. Your creativity shouldn't be limited to just that, you should think out of the box and find the best way you can get your point across.
