         <description><![CDATA[<p>Learning to code can provide students with computational thinking skills which extend to many other subjects. They can benefit greatly from the problem solving skills that are built by learning to code. Coding can also provide a creative outlet to students who may not be interested by traditional creative outlets like music and art. It can inspire a lifelong interest in coding and help start their journey to a career in coding. Like other creative outlets, however, it can be very challenging to some and make them uninterested in the subject. It is not providing a foundational basis of knowledge like other core classes and could even become a distraction of sorts. Though the challenges of learning to code can build resilience, it can also pose problems for students who find it too difficult and just want to quit.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Should kids learn to code? </p><p><br/></p><p>There are several compelling reasons to include coding in K-12 education. At its core, coding teaches students to break complex problems into manageable steps, make hypotheses, test solutions, and revise based on feedback. When children learn to code, they practice troubleshooting in a low stakes environment and learn to translate abstract ideas into concrete products, which strengthens creativity as well an analystical skill. Coding also cultivates computational thinking: it helps students understand how the digital tools they use every day actually work, giving them conceptual power rather than passive consumption, and it opens pathways to future learning and potential careers in a technology rich economy. </p><p><br/></p><p>There are important caveats. Access and equity are major concerns. Many schools and families lack devices, sufficient bandwidth, or teachers trained to teach coding effectively, so poorly implemented programs can widen existing opportunity gaps unless accompanied by resources, professional development, and community partnerships. Another risk is that coding activities can become superficial if they focus solely on repetitive drills or isolated screen tasks; students gain the most when coding is embedded in meaningful projects that require design thinking, collaboration, and communication, and when digital work is balanced with unplugged exercises that highlight underlying concepts. </p><p><br/></p><p>Attention to age-appropriate pedagogy and well scaffolded instruction is crucial: young learners need concrete, playful, and visual approaches to grasp sequencing and logic, while older students benefit from more open-ended challenges. Coding can powerfully develop problem solving, creativity, and digital fluency, but programs must be thoughtfully designed, equitably resources, and pedagogically rich to realize those benefits. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Some benefits of students learning to code include: computational thinking skills, critical thinking and creativity. Students can use the process of coding to develop problem solving skills and create new projects including games and drawings. </p><p><br/></p><p>Some concerns include students having access to only age appropriate tasks and students not having too much unnecessary screen time. It can be hard to control what children have access to online even thought  there are many platforms that exist to help monitor student behavior online. Additionally ensuring that students are not overwhelmed with material that is too advanced for their age group is important for educators to be aware of. </p>]]></description>
