         <description><![CDATA[<div>Self-esteem should be viewed as a continuum, and can be high, medium, or low.<br>People with low self-esteem are more troubled by failure and tend to exaggerate events as being negative (Rosenberg and Owen, 2001).<br>Low self-esteem has been shown to be correlated with a number of negative outcomes, such as depression (Silverstone &amp; Salsali, 2003).<br>Characteristics of low self-esteem:<br>- Doesn't accept compliments&nbsp;<br>- Fear<br>- Anxiety<br>- Lack of confidence<br>- Withdrawn<br>- Heightened sensitivity to what people say<br>The anxiety and depression caused by low self-esteem has lead to social problems, eating disorders, self neglect, reluctance to take on challenges, inability to see anything good about themselves, and suicide.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Three things teachers can do to accommodate their students with low self-esteem is:<br>- Offer praise and acknowledge students’ accomplishments, both in private and in front of their classmates.<br>- Encourage students to use positive self-talk, such as "I can do this.." instead of "<br>I&nbsp;can't do this..".<br>- Create a high self-esteem space, Ex. Posting their work on the walls, putting their achievements in view of their classmates.<br>- Teach students to respect one another.<br>- Be sure to always express a positive attitude to all of your students.</div>]]></description>
