1- We meet Maya's biological father, Big Bailey, for the first time and he asks Maya and Bailey to come home to St. Louis to meet their mother.
2-After her incident with Mr. Freeman, Maya comes back to Stamps while she is still traumatized, she starts to hide and stop talking to people.
3-Maya meets a rich, educated, black woman named Mrs. Flowers who helps Maya build self-esteem and introduces her to poetry and other literature.

Important Character - Momma 
Momma is a very influential person in Maya's life being Maya's mother figure for most of her life since her parents sent her down to Stamps. She is very wealthy since she owns a store and runs it to get money to provide for Bailey Jr. and Maya. Therefore, Maya started driving and got into a crash. Fortunately, when guards and people came, they were not mad at Maya, rather felt empathy for she was caring for her drunken Dad.

Major Event 2: In their house, Dolores and Daddy Bailey got into an argument. Dolores argued that she wasn't receiving enough attention and he let his children get in between them. This escalates into Daddy not caring at all and Dolores's rage to unleash onto Maya. She then starts to call her mother a whore. Maya then for once, fights back, in violation of her mother which has been unseen throughout the story.

Influential Character: Dolores
Although she is a negative character at this point in the story, her actions have positively affected Maya in her self-expression and validation. Her annoyance and rudeness had broken into Maya and allowed her to realize how much power her actions and words have in her life.
