The women had to give up the gun if there was trouble. They were not just fighting for their rights. They were also fighting for a better future for their family.

Women in Iraq and Afghanistan are fighting for rights for countries that are in war. In the text it says that Iraq is already being very hurt by war. So they are fighting for there countries war and other countries too! Roshini thinks that it is amazing that people liek them are fighting not only for there own countries war but other countries too. In Afghanistan a women named "Safia" is studing photography and she is not allowed to take photos on campuss. Roshini feels hurt and says something to make them stop. But Safia just wants to leave.

Women in Iraq and Afghanistan are fighting for their rights in many ways.
Some rights they want are to go in public without a man to accompany them, be allowed to go to schools, or do something as simple as not having to cover their face if they go in public.
Some are fighting, since if an Iraqi woman decides to be a police officer, she can't have a gun with her. Instead, she must give it to the male officers, practically meaning that she has no way to defend herself, and it seems like her life means less than others, just for being female, as our textbook says on page 283.

Women in Afghanistan are fighting for lots of rights And Here's one example. In the text it states that " Girls and women have been attacked for going to school." As you can see one of the rights they are fighting for is to go to school peacefully. Another example is: in the book it states " Iraqi women were invited to the new Iraqi police forces . They were promised jobs that would help them take care of their families. Many women also saw being a police officer as a way to help rebuild Iraq. But the Iraqi female police officers were treated unfairly. For example, they were ordered to give up their guns for male officers to use if something like a shooting happened and a male cop did not have a gun with him. That meant the women could not protect themselves. To the women, it meant their lives were not important.

Then the author said that the Iraqi police said that the women could join the people department. But there were some rules that made the women not treated fairly. For example the author says if they were in a fight and the male police officer needed her gun they would have to give it to him. So that means that she could not protect herself.

1. Rights that women are fighting for in Afghanistan & Iraq are that women arent getting enough jobs to choose from. Women would always get attacked by men. On page 283 it says that Iraqi female police officers would always get their guns taken away so only the male officers would get to use them and the females would never feel protected. The male officers would always say that women's lives weren't important, thats usually why they take their guns away, so they can't protect themselves. This shows that all women's lives in Iraq & Afghanistan and everywhere else are important and they all deserve equal rights.

Adding to that, women in Afghanistan are not able to walk alone without a man, and they can't walk alone without something that almost covers their whole face. Roshini was one out of the many women that are helping the other women get through their difficult times.

People like Carrie Chapman Catt worked thirty years to fight for the right for women to vote. Also in Afghanistan women were not allowed to go to school. Sometimes they would even get attacked if they went. Women in Iraq were allowed to be police officers, but they would get treated unfairly. For example, if there was a case where a female officer had to use a gun, they had to pass it over to a male officer. That means that the woman could die if she did not have a gun. So that goes to show that they do not value women's lives in Iraq. In addition, women could not walk out of their homes without a male with them and they could not walk out without almost their whole body being covered. These are all things that women fought very hard for.

Women in Afghanistan and Iraq are fighting for the rights to be able to make their own decisions and not for men to make decisions for them, for their body, etc. Women are also fighting for the rights to do stuff a man can like vote or even work a job. For example, if a women in Afghanistan or Iraq were policewomen they wouldn't get guns to protect themselves in case on danger. Only the men got guns. Another example is, it was until 1920 that women finally got to vote. But they didn't just get to vote because people saw how unfair it was. It was because they started protesting for what they thought they should be able to do. They also made documentaries. Roshini was one of the people who made a documentary about what these women had to go through. I know this information because on page 284 it states " For some of those women, talking to Roshini on camera was a way to stand up for their rights". This proves that Roshini was one of a lot of women who helped people in Afghanistan and Iraq women though their difficult time.
