Ihsan is a Muslim responsibility to worship ALLAH and believe that ALLAH is always watching over us. While eschatology is the study of the events that will happen at the end of the world.

Three Key Aspects of Ihsan:

In Worship: Ihsan means performing prayers, fasting, charity, and other acts of worship with sincerity and devotion, as if standing before Allah.

In Morality & Character: It involves kindness, honesty, humility, and patience in dealing with others, even when facing hardship.

In Social Responsibility: Ihsan extends to treating people with fairness and mercy, excelling in work, and serving the community selflessly.

"Indeed, Allah loves the doers of Ihsan." (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:195)

Ihsan is not just about personal righteousness but also about spreading goodness in society.

How eschatology are related to ihsan

Reward for the Muhsinin (those who practice Ihsan)
The Quran promises Jannah (Paradise) to those who live with Ihsan:

۞لِّلَّذِينَ أَحۡسَنُواْ ٱلۡحُسۡنَىٰ وَزِيَادَةٞۖ وَلَا يَرۡهَقُ وُجُوهَهُمۡ قَتَرٞ وَلَا ذِلَّةٌۚ أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡجَنَّةِۖ هُمۡ فِيهَا خَٰلِدُونَ

"For those who do good (Ihsan) is the best (reward) and even more..." (Surah Yunus 10:26)

The phrase “even more” is interpreted as the greatest reward—seeing Allah in the afterlife.

Accountability on the Day of Judgment
Since Ihsan means worshipping as if seeing Allah, those who practice it are more conscious of their actions. The Quran states:

"And We place the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be treated unjustly at all. And if there is [even] the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. And sufficient are We as accountant" (Surah Al-Anbiya' 21:47)

People of Ihsan will have their deeds weighed favorably.

Punishment for Neglecting Ihsan
Those who reject faith or act unjustly without Ihsan face accountability in the Hereafter, including the possibility of Hellfire.

WEEK 7:APPRECIATION FOR THE NATURE AND ENVIRONMENT & SUSTAINBILITY IN ISLAM

Appreciation for Nature and the Environment

1. Nature as a Sign of Allah's Greatness

Allah created the heavens, the earth, and everything in them as a sign of His power and wisdom.

The Quran says:

"And We have spread out the earth and placed firm mountains in it, and caused everything to grow in due proportion." (Surah Al-Hijr 15:19)

This verse reminds us that nature is balanced, and we should not destroy it.

2. Responsibility as Khalifah

Humans are appointed as khalifah (caretakers) of the Earth.

"And do not cause corruption on the earth after its reformation." (Surah Al-A’raf 7:56)

3. The Importance of Conservation

Islam encourages using natural resources wisely and not wasting them.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

"Do not waste water, even if you perform ablution on the bank of a flowing river." (Ibn Majah)

This teaches us to be mindful of our consumption and not be wasteful.

4. Kindness to Animals and Plants

Islam teaches that animals and plants also glorify Allah.

The Prophet (PBUH) said:

"Whoever plants a tree and it bears fruit, every time a person or an animal eats from it, it will be counted as a charity for him." (Musnad Ahmad)

We should protect animals, plant trees, and avoid harming nature unnecessarily.

5. Keeping the Environment Clean

Cleanliness is a big part of Islam. The Prophet (PBUH) said:

"Cleanliness is half of faith." (Sahih Muslim)

This means we should keep our surroundings clean, avoid littering, and protect the Earth from pollution.

Sustainability in Islam

Stewardship (Khilafah): Muslims believe that they have been entrusted by Allah with the responsibility to care for the Earth and its resources.

Moderation (Wasatiyyah): Islam advocates for a balanced and moderate use of resources, avoiding both wastefulness and excessive consumption.

Justice (Adl): Ensuring that resources are distributed fairly and that the needs of all creatures, human and non-human, are considered.

Compassion (Rahmah): Treating the environment and all living beings with kindness and compassion.

HOW TO PRACTICES IT

Avoiding Waste: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that wastefulness is disliked by Allah. He said,

“Do not waste water, even if you perform your ablution on the banks of an abundantly-flowing river” (Ibn Majah).

Planting Trees and Greening the Earth: Planting trees is highly encouraged in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad said, “If a Muslim plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird, or a person, or an animal eats from it, it is regarded as a charitable gift (Sadaqah) for him” (Bukhari).

Protection of Animals: Islam teaches kindness towards animals and prohibits cruelty.

The Prophet Muhammad said, “Whoever kills a sparrow or anything bigger than that without a just cause, Allah will hold him accountable on the Day of Judgment” (An-Nasa’i).

Conservation of Water: Water is considered a blessing and is to be used responsibly.

The Quran says,

"And We have made from water every living thing" (Surat Al- Anbiya' 21:30).
