Do you think social media has an effect on general interactions in our society between human beings? Do you think possibly one day that face to face communication and interactions will no longer exist because of the new technologies and social media platforms being created? These are a few of many questions people are asking and this is going to be a platform to lay out all the possible limitations we have to general communication and interactions due to social media being such a big platform in today's world.

Social media is a part of most people's everyday life. It includes platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram where people can communicate, share photos, and “like” people’s posts or pictures. These applications can be accessed through most electronic devices and many adolescents have to access right from their own bedrooms. This limits adults from leaving the comfort of their own home to interact with people in the real world

How does social media affect interaction in our society? Will face-to-face communication be done through new social technologies? These questions are ones that many researchers have found extremely intriguing since the advent and popularization of social media in the last decade. Within this topic, social competency is an important ideal that most people strive towards, but there is evidence to support the claims that social media is actually harming people’s ability to interact competently in an offline setting.

The Negative Impacts of Social Media on Face-to-Face Interactions

Social media has led us to have fewer interactions with the people that they associate with. The majority of people have access to social media at any time they please via their smartphones, so this only worsens as more people begin to acquire smartphones. Since it has become more prevalent, social media has made people have a tendency to want to interact with people online rather than in person because it has made the process simpler. A simpler process allows for things to be done easier and more efficiently, which attracts more people to give it a try. Although it may be viewed as a positive change, this has caused people to become more antisocial than ever before, as counterintuitive as that may sound. Facebook was not an entity outside of the current generation and it has caused a bit of a culture shock. Studies have shown that people have less interest in interacting with other people both in similar age groups and with people that are in other age groups.
The world has changed into a society that is accustomed to sitting behind a computer screen. Social media is a leading cause of this issue of having less face to face interaction. These same studies have shown that relationships that form completely online are becoming increasingly common.

I find this interesting, because I personally do not think we have a generation of idiots , I feel that it shows that our generations are becoming more intelligent year by year incorporation technology into our lives, however I feel that we are abusing it and one day we may be losing the basic skills of being social and conversing due to technology.

Social Elements on how Social Media Limits Social Interaction and General Communication between Human Beings.

Social Media limits social interactions and general daily communications between human beings and it is having a major effect on further generations. Society having access to technology from a young age and being commonly used and expected to have as an adult has people tapped into using social media and having accounts from new social media apps that are developed every few months. I like to think that I use social media as an outlet to simply stay in contact with my friends who I no longer have the chance to see on a familiar basis, however no matter how I think that, I can see how I do use social media in a sense for other things as well. It starts with seeing funny memes and pictures on Instagram of my friends to simply meeting people online and creating a new social media friend group. Instagram personal is a platform for myself I use to show my friends what I am up to and the different experiences I experience. I also use it to stay up to date in my friend’s life. I do realize that it simplifies my life by not having to meet my friend and get an update on how her vacation was, however simply going out on a coffee date and updating each other on your lives gives you both the chance to have a better description and image of how your friend is doing. I do understand that there are many introvert people out there and that social media is the perfect platform for these individuals to feel comfortable sharing and interacting with people. From my own personal experience, I see that I display that I am a very social person online, however, in real life, I tend to not go into much detail about my life as I feel that I bore people. The thing about social media is you have the option to listen and read someone story and not. I believe that face-to-face interaction must continue to be our main source of communication. Social media of all kinds has become such an important part of our society that looking at it in a negative way will only set us back. Society must push forward and continue to incorporate social media in more positive ways.
