To me he became really suspicious by telling his side of the story because he mostly never admitted he had killed Hae. After the breakup many people had said just like Haes friend he was kind of possesive and controlling. But she had never noticed anything because she thought him coming to her house just because they were having a sleepover was cute until he was coming in again and again. In my opinion he would have made himself a manipulator through love and used it first on Hae.
