         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Scout the narrator introduces her and her family, she leads the novel off by stating that her brother, Jem, broke his elbow and links it to the events leading up to it which forms the story.<br>- She talks about her town, her father Atticus, Calpurnia and lists how her mother died when she was two.<br>- Scout talks about her first encounter with Dill, and her friendship with him, and his interest in the Radely place. <br>- Scout describes the rumors about the Radely place, and the Radely family; including Boo Radely.<br>- Dill dares Jem to go and touch the Radely place.          <description><![CDATA[<div>-Scout has her first day of school ever and attends first grade at the same school as Jem, who walks scout to her room, and says Scout shouldn’t embarrass him. <br>- Scout describes her teacher, who is new to Maycomb, Miss Caroline. Miss Caroline reads a story which doesn’t grab any of the students interests. She also teaches a new method, The Dewey Decimal System.<br>- Miss Caroline finds out Scout can read and demands that her father should stop teaching her, both in reading and writing.<br>- Miss Caroline offers Walter Cunningham a quarter for lunch, but the Cunningham’s don’t pay back what they can’t afford and only pay back items. <br>- Scout explainthe Cunningham’s situation, and Miss Caroline hits her with a ruler and tells her to sit in the corner.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>—Scout rubs Walter Cunningham’s nose in the dirt cause she was mad he got her in trouble. Jem then finds her and tells her to stop.<br>- Jem invites Walter to lunch with them. Walter reluctant at first then joins the family for lunch.<br>- Walter pours molasses all over his food. Scout before she can finish her statement ridiculing Walter is called into the kitchen by Calpurnia. Calpurnia states everyone that eats with them is company.<br>- Miss Caroline screams after seeing lice on Burris Ewell’s hair. Burris responds rudely to her comments and says that he only ever attends the first day of school.<br>- Scout trues everything in her power to convince Atticus to let her be homeschooled. Atticus informs her about how sometimes the law is stretched even if it’s not right. Her tells her to put herself in others shoes.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Scout finds gum in the knot-hole of the Radely tree. Jem with skepticism tells her to spit it out.<br>- Later Jem and Scout on the last day of school find two pennies in the tree. They agreed to keep them until school starts and ask if their someone’s when returning back to school.<br>- Jem gets offended by Scout contradicting her on hot steams, so when they roll each other in the tire, Jem pushes Scout so she rolls all the way into the Radley yard.<br>- The kids make up a game to mimic the Radely’s. Atticus sees them and the Jem says they weren’t playing anything.<br>- Scout quits the game and states that she could hear someone in the house laughing when she ended up in the Radley yard.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Scout is being excluded by the boys and spends more time with Miss Maudie Atkinson. She describes Miss Maudie as someone who “hated her house...she loved everything that grew in God’s earth, even the weeds” (Lee 47). <br>- Miss Maudie tells Scout that the things Miss Stephanie Crawford aren’t always true.<br>- Jem and Dill want to give Boo Radely a note with a fishing pole. Scout reluctantly joins in.<br>- Jem struggles to get the note through the window and soon Atticus shows up and tells them to mind their own business and if they wanted to talk they should go to the front door.<br>- Atticus fools Jem with Thea Lawer’s oldest trick in the book.          <description><![CDATA[<div>- Jem and Scout join Dill on his last night in Maycomb. The boys want to go into the Radely lot to look in the windows at Boo Radley. Scout feels like she has to join to not be called a girl.<br>- Jem tries to look in after Dill sees nothing. Scout and Dill then see a shadow fall over Jem and the three try to escape the yard quickly. They then hear a shotgun.<br>- Jem gets his pants stuck on the fence and leaves them there.<br>- Everyone in the neighborhood hears the shotgun, and gather together. They assume it’s an African American man that went in the Radley lot.<br>- Jem goes back to find his pants that night even though Scout insists he shouldn’t. He doesn’t say anything when he comes back home, and finds his pants to show respect to Atticus. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Jem tells Scout his pants were stitched back together crooked and were folded across the fence like they were waiting for him.<br>- Jem and Scout found grey twine in the knot hole and considered everything there their property.<br>- Jem and Scout find two images carved in soap that look like them. They later find a whole package of gum. <br>- Everything about the Radely place being eerie slipped from Jem memory, they later found a spelling bee trophy, and a pocketwatch  on a chain with an aluminum knife that wouldn’t run,<br>- Mr Nathan Radely fills the knot hole with cement because he says it’s dying. Atticus says it looks healthy to him, but says Mr Radely probably knows more about his own trees. After the knot hole is filled with cement Jem cries because their bond is gone.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Mrs. Radely died but her death went rather unnoticed. Jem and Scout thinks Noo Radely killed her but Atticus says she died from natural causes.<br>- The first snowfall occurs for the first time in a while in Maycomb. Scout and Jem decide to make a snowman.<br>- Scout and Jem have their snowman resemble Mr Avery, Atticus then says they shouldn’t have it resemble Mr Avery completely.<br>- Miss Maudie’s house sets on fire and burns down, however, she was able to get out a few of her belongings. <br>- Scout finds out Boo Radley put a blanket on her and she didn’t even notice. Miss Maudie is happy her house burned down so she can have more azaleas.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Justice</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Justice is frequently portrayed within the novel. As Atticus deals with the case of Tom Robinson he knows he will not win, yet he understands that it is his job to stick up for Tom Robinson because prejudice is immoral. Justice is a thought provoking motif represented within the novel, and illustrates the idea that no matter the outcome, one must have justice. This motif is exemplified when Atticus states “You must obey the law” and later explains “...the Ewells were members of an exclusive society made up of Ewells” (Lee 34). Lee is critiquing the Ewells situation and how it does not show justice</div>]]></description>
