The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the place that they saw fitting for the two of them and upon their arrival they begin to make connections with the staff and others that often visit the museum. Soon after their arrival they find out that there is a mystery that is hidden within the walls of the museum and it takes the two of them along with the help of a few others to solve it. <strong><br>Teacher Point: </strong>This book I would suggest to a student for an independent read. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Published:</strong>1997<strong><br>Genre: </strong>Upper Grade Chapter Book<strong><br>Age: </strong>10 -13<strong><br>Review: </strong>Within a town there is a yearly fundraiser .The fundraiser holds an annual pigeon shooting, in this particular year the fundraiser had shot down 5,000 live pigeons. In the middle of all the shooting there is a young boy named Palmer. Palmer is what they would call a " Wringer" their job is to break the necks of wounded pigeons. Palmer is conflicted for he doesn't want to harm any pigeons, however he also doesn't want to be made fun of for not being "man" enough to do the task that is needed of him. <strong><br>Teaching Point: </strong>With this book I would use it as a reference in order to teach students that it doesn't matter what people think of you. Growing up a free slave he was never subjected to the harsh treatment that others had endured. However he sees it first hand once he goes on a trip with a man named Mr. Leroy. With this trip Mr. Leroy was trying to regain his money from a double crossing preacher, in order to buy his family from slavery. And its here that Elijah starts to realize the harsh treatment that his friends had endured for many years.<br><strong>Teaching Point: </strong> I would use this as a resource in order to teach history along with empathy and humanity. </div>]]></description>

When the family falls into complications with the vineyard Esperanza begins to worry about what is going to happen to her family. Later on in the book there are more complications that occur that place the family in an even tougher position. With everything going on Esperanza is in distress and it at a loss for words. He was born with a face that people coward to at the site of it. And with this deformity he was afraid as to what it would cause for him at school. In the beginning he was having trouble fitting in with other students at school. But once he started to let people in and show them that his appearance wasn't everything he was able to make connections with the other students and he began to see that looks don't matter. <strong><br>Teaching Point: </strong>I would use this resource as a way to teach students how to be an amazing human being and treat others the way they would like to be treated.</div>]]></description>
