Social contract- this was popular in the 16th 17th and 18th centuries among these theorists: Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

John Locke- John Locke was an English philosopher and physician, widely regarded as one of the most influential of Enlightenment thinkers and commonly known as the "Father of Liberalism".

Great Fear- The Great Fear was a general panic that occurred between 17 July and 3 August 1789 at the start of the French Revolution.

Three Estates-  the First Estate (clergy); the Second Estate (nobility); and the Third Estate (commoners).

Old Regime- The Ancien Régime was the monarchic, aristocratic, social and political system established in the Kingdom of France

King Luois XVI- was King of France from 1774 until his deposition in 1792, although his formal title after 1791 was King of the French.

Natural Rights- Rights that people supposedly have under natural law. The Declaration of Independence of the United States lists life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as natural rights.

Tennis Court Oath- On 20 June 1789, the members of the French Estates-General for the Third Estate, who had begun to call themselves the National Assembly, took the Tennis Court Oath,

- Both revolutions had occurred in the eighteenth century

-Conditions were formed for constitutionalism and patriotism

These are differences of the American and French Revolutions:
- American Revolution caused by how the British were treating them and the French Revolution caused by the lower classes because they also sis not like how they were treated.
- one was led by all classes of society while the other was led by the lowest class
