I am from the South Jersey area and have  had an interest in teaching journalism since high school.  I was hired at Cherry Hill East the day after my graduation from Boston College and have been here ever since.  This is my 21st year, and obviously it's going to feel very different from others, but I'm optimistic about some of the possibilities.

I have taught almost all levels and grades of English at East, but I now have a schedule consisting of all Journalism, Broadcasting and Creative Writing classes. I have held other roles at Cherry Hill East in the past but now mostly focus on journalism and broadcast endeavors, running Eastside, Eastside Online, Eastside Radio, Eastside TV and Eastcast. I also serve as New Jersey State Director for the Journalism Education Association and am past president of the Garden State Scholastic Press Association.  In 2012 I was given the NJ Golden Quill Award for lifetime achievement in NJ journalism and in 2014 I was named by the Dow Jones as Runner-Up to National High School Journalism Teacher of the Year.  :)

As of a few days ago, I am now on the editorial advisory committee for the Heights newspaper at Boston College, helping the editors there on a monthly basis.

My wife (an elementary school teacher and college professor) and I have a daughter named Mia, who just turned two years old and is awesome.  She is clearly the daughter of two teachers: she regularly talks in complete sentences and loves books.

I still write on my own and have two books published.  I also have an active presence and following on social media, mainly due to my humor column. I serve as emcee for multiple school and community events, including the long-running "Dancing with the Cherry Hill Stars."

I take my roles at East seriously.  As you may know, all the facets of Eastside function like a non-scholastic newspaper in terms of how often we print and the types of issues we cover. Eastside has been rated the #1 school newspaper in New Jersey for the past 11 years and has won hundreds of state and national awards over the past 20 years, ranging from top multimedia coverage in the country to top sports section in the country.
