         <title>Class Books vs. Choice</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In 180 Days, they do TWO class books, but some of us do up to five a year.<br><br>Start the year with a class book to show how to read, analyze, etc. THEN let them go into choice.<br><br>HS - We did lit circles where they chose from four books and that little bit of choice was great.<br><br>6th grade - Independent reading all year and they chart their pages. Teachers check that they're meeting their goal.<br><br>Conscious effort to give them more IR time in Meadows.<br><br>Middle school - 20 IR time three times a week, journal twice a week.<br><br>Book Talks - Rate book out of five stars, who they'd recommend the book to, brief summary.<br><br>Book Source allows students to give a review - five stars/write a review. Could be a requirement so other kids can read the review. (Can use iPad/tablet to check out and keep in the room.)</div>]]></description>

Middle school conferences when students want to abandon books.<br><br>Meadows - Setting up conferences before/after school, during lunch, and during plan times. They have reading conference questions to ask students when they conference once a quarter.<br><br>Are we robbing the joy of reading?<br><br>Options to showcase their reading rather than only focusing on conferencing.<br><br>Utilize instructional coaches to help facilitate conferencing.<br><br>Conferencing would be great to help determine when struggling readers are stopping their reading.</div>]]></description>
