- Schools can punish students if their method of protesting or advocating is considered disruptive, but schools can't punish students for why they're doing it.
- High school students have more protection in their freedom of speech in school than middle or elementary students. This is because high school students are closer to being adults and, therefore, their points of view hold more weight.

TED talk: post #1

- This talk is about how the human population is growing to the point that soon we'll hit 10 billion people, a human outbreak. The people who want to solve this problem by making the world more Amish (in a sense) are called prophets, and those who want to turn the world into a technological utopia are called wizards. Both sides, however, still their pros and cons.
- This topic is important to me in the way that I often worry about how the future will turn out for those who come after me. There's no one way to fix the world, but there are better ways than what we have going now. If we are to find ways to better use water, we must first address the facts, like how most cities lose a quarter of their water because of leaky and contaminated pipes, and yet you almost never hear about people advocating for better pipes. Another thing that stood out to me was the comparison Mann made about humans and protozoa in a petri dish, because that's exactly the situation humanity is in right now; and sooner or later we're going to hit the edge.

Summary: May, 1963 more than a thousand young African-American middle and high school students lead a peaceful march in protest of segregation in Birmingham. Police arrested many of the students on the first day, and over several other days used many other aggressive means of smothering their movement. The student, however, remained determined. In the end, social outcry won out and pressure to remove segregation increased there immensely.
This event was important because it helped further the popular support for civil rights.
We still feel the want for civil rights among people in schools, even if the what is being protested is not segregation. Because as long as there is injustice, there will be those who wish to oppose it.
I believe it is absolutely important for young people to be involved in political activism because the things decided today can be what affects them in the future. They are the future.

This is a photo of a house that is burning down due to the devastating November fires of California in 2018. The picture was taken from The Washington Post website. This problem matters to me because It reminds me of when my family had to take in one of my aunt's family when people in Redding, CA were ordered to evacuate. That happened earlier this year, but now it's happening again, but now on an even bigger scale. Now, my cousins' house was fine in the end, but everything was covered in ash and soot, and the anxiety of what was happening over there was quite nerve-wracking. It makes me feel for these people

My parents are both immigrants, something conservatives don't seem to like. They want to have a better life and more access to resources that the liberals are more accepting to giving out. I, too, want them to not have to worry about having steady life, which leads me to developing a political ideology that fits those wants. I wonder if I'd still think that way if I didn't have to worry about these things.
