Racism in sport is bad because people are judged on the colour of their skin or based on what sports that they are meant to be good. Most sports that are played worldwide all have there own stereotypes. An example that I have heard often is "All black coloured people are good at running and jumping"This is said at Rugby games, Olympic Games etc. Another example is from an article from America; Asians and Asian-Americans athletes are supposed to be good at golf, baseball, tennis and figure skating, but not at basketball or football. Often they are overlooked by college recruiters and professional scouts simply because of their names. Jeremy Lin said in a interview on 60 Minutes “Well the obvious thing in my mind is that I was Asian-American which, you know, is a whole different issue. I think that was a barrier. I mean, it’s just a stereotype.”

Number 6: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/bondy-10-places-racism-major-issue-sport-article-1.1778178

Racism in sports is bad because if a certain race is for some reason not allowed to play then the team particularly a national team won't have their best players there fore having a smaller chance of winning. An example of racism in sports many years ago some countries didn't allow black players to participate in the same team as the white players, even in a national team. Another example of racism being bad in sport is some countries implementing a quota amount of black people and white people in one team. This means to be able to play they have to take of some of their better players just because they are white or black and upset the ratio of black to white players.

"They say quotas go against the central principal of professional sport – that an athlete be chosen on merit alone.

the Russian doping ban is very unfair because all Russians are banned from track and field and many others banned from other sports due to the Russians reputation of drugs in sport therefore their may be many Russian athletes that don't dope and have been banned for something others did in the past. this is a big disadvantage because many athletes earn money from the Olympics and due to them being banned, they will not be able earn the money and represent their country in what they love doing. Also, the Russian athletes that don't dope train very hard so that they can compete in big events and the olympics being the biggest sporting event ever, mostly every athlete wants to compete in it and therefore spend lots of their time training and then being told that they cant compete would be terrible

Competitive sport can have a negative impact on the physical and mental health of and individual. Success in the competitive leagues is often a result of relentless training and preparation. This places stress on your body and mind. A study has found 50% of all reported sports injuries are a result of over use (Negatives of competitive sport). Winning is the main objective in competitive sport, social aspects are put aside. The pressure placed on athletes to be the best is immense. In the eyes of many if they are not the best it’s not good enough. This feedback if not heard from coaches, parents and pairs comes from within. Its degrading and can be detrimental to the confidence and character of individuals. (Pressure on the pros). If they are the best similar pressures are placed on athletes to remain the best. At the last Olympic games in London, when Valerie Adams thought she had been beaten she did not display sportsmanship to her fellow competitors and cried (Valerie Adams).

"Most females are used as sex symbols to appear on magazine covers and sell their looks instead of their talents".

Doping in sport is so much more prevalent than what we see on TV, c grade chemists are creating and administrating performance enhancing drugs in secret, which could potentially be more risky than legalizing doping. By allowing top quality chemists and substances to be created for use on all those who choose to, sport may become a more even playing field. Drugs such as asthma medicine and pain help, protein powders and surgeries already help to boost an athletes performance, as well as having access to specific coaches, training programmes and facilities, so I believe this article is somewhat correct in saying there is less harm than portrayed in the world of legal doping.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/othersports/drugsinsport/11650798/Lets-just-be-honest-and-allow-drugs-in-sport.html

Doping in Sport - Rio Olympics (-)

The IAAF and world athletics is in a state of madness following the discovery of the systematic doping programs that have been in place in Russia for many years. Also, over 23 athletes worldwide that have medals from the previous Olympics (Beijing, London) have failed drug tests which exposes the obvious fact that they were not clean at the time of receiving these medals. In attempt to get rid of doping, the IOC has banned Russia from competing in the track and field section of the Olympics, a decision I believe is the right one. However other disciplines such as rowing have also seen doping in Russia, and they are still allowed to go. Until IOC tidies up doping in Olympic athletes completely, the sport will never be even which is not fair on other athletes who are competing to put food on the table - some with families etc.

With the current doping scandal occurring with the Russian athletes in relation to their participation in the olympics, making doping legal in sport would completely undermine not only the spirit of olympics, but the spirit of sport. The olympic oath states : "In the name of all the competitors, I promise that we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them, committing ourselves to a sport without doping and without drugs, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honor of our teams." This shows that ever since the Olympic's had first been held, the values involved were about truth, honesty, training hard and being exceptionally good due to hard work and training. Plus, suddenly legalising doping in sport would completely offend all those athletes who have been banned and stripped of titles in the past including people like lance armstrong and maria sharapova.

Orally taken doping material which come in the form of androgenic anabolic steroids pills have an extremely negative effect on the liver because the liver is resposible for stopping bad stuff getting into our blood stream and the steroids are specifically designed to be strong enough compounds to go through the liver, which hurts it on the way. The other way of taking steroids, which is by injecting it, is supposedly more safe but it still has toxicity aswell as a risk of infection because of the constant needle use.

Throughout any type of sport there is usually some form of pressure. This could be small pressure from coaches within schools or PE teachers for younger kids to push themselves and actually participate in a sport. This usually has a positive impact, as younger kids are forced out of their comfort zones to become more confident, find a sport they enjoy or meet new friends. However pressure within sport can also result in negative issues, such as being pressured into taking drugs that enhance your performance, pushing yourself past the point of exhaustion, where your studies or physical and mental health may suffer.

In this society, it is more common for females to not participate in as much physical activity as males. This is due to the learning environments of children. Females are taught to be more cautious and it is widely accepted by society that females will be this way, where as males are taught to go and play, without too much caution in terms of getting injured and are more likely to be seen with a skinned knee or some other form of injury. This article has said that the teachings in primary school are an influence on how much support females get in sport participation and how they act in sports. A large majority of primary school teachers are female and they tend to teach forms of play that involve risk analysis and calm approaches as that is what they had been taught in their youth. Where as the male primary school teachers encourage physical play outside as that is what they grew up with.
This goes to show how the difference in upbringing can influence the acceptance and views of females in sport and whether or not (or how much) a female will participate in sport as society accepts the fact the males thrive in physical activity (which is true to an extent), however society takes away opportunities for females to thrive in sport as males often take the attention and support.
http://www.dailylife.com.au/health-and-fitness/dl-sport/girls-and-sport-20130325-2gr2g

The battle to control drug use never, ever seems to end Dr Klaas Faber said : “Current anti-doping is a total failure. Success rate is extremely poor.”. For example, Dwain Chambers (UK’s fastest sprinter in the 100 meters who was banned from competing in the Olympic Games after testing positive for the anabolic steroid tetrahydrogestrinone) claims that at least half of the U.S. racing team at the 2008 Summer Games used illegal substances. Why don’t we accept doping will always happen and legalize it? As training, coaching, nutrition and equipment has been perfected, the best times of the best athletes have been increasing at a slower and slower rate. Eventually, athletes will reach a wall, and then we face the question of how to keep sport interesting. Doping will never be eradicated. Rather than drive doping underground, the use of drugs should be permitted under medical supervision.

The primary use of drugs in sport is to enhance an athletes performance allowing them to achieve higher results. Most cases are of a single or few athletes of them and their coaches choice. However, new news has come out which has substantial evidence to prove that Russia had a system of state sponsored doping. What we have learnt is that bribes were used, a cocktail called the Duchess was used to mask the use of drugs, and that even the Russian Security Service or FSB were involved. This has an impact on New Zealander's because it meant that athletes of ours competing in the 2012 Olympics and the 2014 Winter Olympics as well as many other major sporting events have been competing along side cheats and should rightfully have finished higher above them. This means that possible medals were missed and it also has a negative affect heading into the 2016 Rio Olympics because any New Zealand athletes who are competing with Russians could potentially be competing with cheats. This has a negative impact on our society as now it is most likely the first thing we will think of in the games and it leaves us wondering whether there are other countries who are doing very similar practices that have yet to be outed.
BW
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/jul/18/russia-doping-scandal-five-things-wada-report
