I selected Zoey and Sassafras Dragons and Marshmallows for Blair because I thought that it could act as a mirror for her. Since the protagonist of the book and her share many things in common, such as they're both young women who love adventures and spending time with their friends. This book is categorized at a 3rd grade level so it will be a little challenging for her, but I do think that she'll try her best to get through this book because of how she relates to the protagonist.

I selected What A Waste for Blair because of her interest in going to the beach. This book provides facts about pollution and ways in which we can minimize this problem. It suggests things such as the 3 R's. This book is at a 2nd grade level so it would be just right for her. It is also 72 pages long, so even though it is her grade level it should take her some time. I chose this non fiction book to allow Blair to see a new perspective of how to take care of the beaches, water, and overall planet. As well as seeing the effect of pollution on the beach to motivate her to possibly become part of the change. I think this book would serve as a window for Blair because it may be something she has been aware of or taught and is just now being brought to her attention.

I selected The Story of Ruby Bridges because Ruby Bridges was a civil rights activist who was the first black child to be integrated into an all white school. She paved the way for integration of schools across the nation and this book provides a little insight into her point of view as a six year old going through an experience as heavy as the one she was put through. I think that Blair would see this book as a window because she hasn't experienced the hardships that Bridges has faced. I think that this book will put into perspective for Blair what African Americans had to face and I think this will help her connect that we are all people and our differences make us special never lesser than. This book is at a K-3rd grade level, so although the book is on the less challenging end I do believe that the message and learning about the integration of schools is important.

I selected Ramona Quimby, Age 8 for Blair because I feel like she would relate to this book seeing as the protagonist is the same age as her. This book follows Ramona as she tries to get through third grade. It has mild adventure, so I think that Blair would enjoy it. I think that she would see herself in this book because of the similarities in age, grade, and life. I think that this book would serve as a mirror to her. This book won Newbery Honor Books Award and is at a 2nd-3rd grade reading level so it should be just right for Blair.

I selected Making A Difference for Blair because it's a collection of stories of young children making change in their community. I think that this story may help inspire Blair to make a positive impact on her community, either alone or with a friend. Some actions that are talked about include fundraising, starting inclusive teams using their talents, planting tree, etc. I think that this could act as a sliding glass door because she could put herself into the position of any of the young children who have made this positive impact. I think the first time she reads it the sliding door with be more prevalent, but if she choses to read it for a second time later in her elementary school I think that this could potential become a mirror for her. I also saw that this book was a best seller among teachers as a way to introduce community citizenship to their students. This book is ages 7-10, therefore it may be a little challenging for Blair but I think it will be just the perfect amount to keep her interested.

I selected Cupcake Diaries for Blair because of her love and interest for food. This book is a graphic novel, and the reading level is listed as starting at 3rd grade. Although this is above Blairs reading level currently I believe that the pictures will help guide her through this book assisting her with the words on the page. I think that Blair would see this book as a mirror because the protagonist Katie shares her challenges with friends and adjusting to a new situation, in Katies case is middle school. I think that Blair would relate to this seeing as she's also adjusting to a new situation being new to the school. I believe this will also interest her because she has an interest in food and this book allows her to get peeks of yummy treats from the cupcake club that Katie started.

I selected Magic Tree House Dinosaurs Before Dark because this book contains a lot of adventure which Blair is interested in. I think that this will keep her engaged while reading especially since I believe that this book is a window for her. She has never experienced trying to find her way back home after time traveling to a prehistoric times with dinosaurs. I think that her using her creativity while reading creating a mental image of a world she's never experienced. This book is in the age range of 6-9 years old, so it is just right for Blair to read with little to no frustration.
